Change of ownership

    Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered before but I looked through the FAQ's and didn't see a relevant answer.

I traded in my old car last Saturday for a 2011 car which had been imported from UK.

VRT had already been paid etc so was an Irish reg.

All forms were filled out in the dealers.

I see on the Motortax website that my old car has had a change of ownership put through on Monday.

    Change Of Vehicle Ownership
    Purchased by a Dealer on : 26/01/2015

    Notified on : 26/01/2015

For the car I bought nothing has gone through.

Is it normal that it would not update one of the two?

    Sorry for the rambling.

    Any help appreciated.

Keep checking regularly, it may take longer to process when transferring ownership to an individual rather than a dealer. Also if it's a big dealership selling lots of cars then they may update the system in bulk batches on a certain day of every week for example.

If the newly imported car was already registered but untaxed the owner (dealer) does not get the logbook until they tax the car for the first time.

This is the case with a private individual, I'm assuming dealer will be the same so they will likely be in the process of taxing it, then transferring to you.

ms vieria, did you get a form from the dealer when you collected the car ? It will have all the details of the 'new' vehicle (Make, model, registration number etc.) written/printed on it.
This is the form you would need to bring to your local tax office and tax the car. This will then generate a VLC (logbook).
Unless the Dealer specifically told you that he would tax the car for you, then you should have this form.

edit; I think it's the RF100 form, and that you can also tax the car online.....but I'm open to correction on that.

Most dealers do online change of ownership with dept of transport so they'd prob put your trade in into their name straight away. When they do online change of ownership of the car you bought into your name the dept of transport still have to process this themselves which takes anything from 3/4 days to couple weeks. If they posted log book with your details as new owner to dept of transport this will almost always take at least 2/3 weeks

There is no log book for the dealer to post. When the car is taxed for the 1st time this will generate the VLC.

Isn't it normal for dealers to fill out a form saying your old car is "in trade"? Changing the ownership at this stage probably means they have sold it already.
