Wiper Linkage issue on Qashqai

    Hi folks,

Having an issue with the linkage rod on a 2010 Qashqai. Basically wipers were working perfectly on Wednesday night and then stopped. I can hear the motor working but nothing happens. I took a look yesterday and can see one of the link rods has come off.

Is it a difficult job to re-attach this? Was quoted 300 ex VAT for a new linkage kit but the rods and motor seem fine.

So took the car to a mechanic yesterday and the problem is where the linkage rod connects onto the plastic bolt to hold it in place. I can pop it in manually and the wipers work, but after a few mins of driving it pops out again.

Is this something that can be fixed or is it a replacement of the whole wiper linkage kit?

Try bringing the plastic bolt to your local motor factors, they may have something similar that will work.

TBH, if it was me, I'd have a look in woodies for a similar sized bolt, whatever worked to keep the linkage together

Actually, can you put up a picture of the fitting in question

    Hey cletus,

Im due to bring the car into the Galway Car Service Center in the morning for an evaluation and see if they can sort something.

Ill put up a pic first thing in the morning, but it does feel a bit easy to pop the linkage rod on, and way too easy for it to pop off :)

You can buy a repair clip which will sort out the problem depending on which joint has failed. See link to these

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/WINDSCREEN-WIPER-MOTOR-LINKAGE-REPAIR/dp/B007BADIP6

Alternatively, you can buy new connecting push rods which are a good job. I've replaced a set on my own qashqai where the joint failed between the wiper linkage and motor. Very easy to do. See link to these too

    Hey Max Moment,

They are quite easy. Only a couple of bolts to remove entire wiper linkage. Don't forget to unplug the electrical connector first though.

The existing push rod plastic joints will pry off using a screw driver. Then just press on the new rods using a clamp or pliers. Don't forget to grease the new joints before assembly. The rods come with instructions; hardest part is getting the linkage out but even that is not too bad. There might be some videos on you tube too.

    Hope this helps

Sometimes these can be fixed by using cable ties, depends on what/how it's broken

Thanks Biko. I might even buy the ones mentioned by Max Moment above and just get a mechanic to fit it. Still a hell of a lot cheaper than 300 euro for a new one. Thanks a million folks for all your help with this.

    Hi Folks,

I ended up buying the linkage rods and had them fitted in Galway. All going well until last week and then the wipers stopped working again.
Brought the car down to the garage and they told me that when they fitted the rob it came back off again so it needs a whole new linkage kit.

Its a pain because its just that one rod and the motor is working fine. Dont suppose there's anywhere that could "fix" a linkage issues?

Could you bore through that plastic bit and through the ball that it fits on and put a split pin through it.This was a common problem in Carina Es and regularly repaired this way.

I used the repair clip on an MGF linkage which was well worn some time ago and its worked fine since .
You may have to check the size you need but they are very effective - and cheap .
