Took some soil samples earlier in the week and sent them off for analysis. My lambs just didn't thrive last year, so thinking about reseeding a few acres and correcting any imbalances that may show up. Anybody else here reseed lately ? Did ye find lambs thrived much better afterwards ? What would be the best grass seed mixtures for a sheep only setup ? Or are there any other cost effective measures that could be done to rejuvenate sward without full out reseeding ? would be old pasture's I have

I have put in a small bit of grass seed for the past few years. It would be more reclaming than a typical reseed.

I found reseeded grass really shows in the Spring and Autumn. I think older swards do ok-ish in the summer months. Lambs definitely did better on the reseeded ground.

I put in whatever grazing mix the co-ophad + extra clover in some. I was looking at seed from moregrass, but I didnt get it in the end, laziness more than anything. (I cant search for it now, as the moregrass website seems to be gone?)

I guess wait and see what the soil sample says. I would be of the opinion that lime + slurry + correcting whatever imbalances are there can do a awful lot for growing grass. And if these don't work, or you're still not happy, then I think a min-til approach will still make the pH & nutrients available to the new reseed next year or whenever.

I should add - I soil sampled here a while back, and they came back as very low in P. So I put out 0-16-0 and it made some difference to the Spring grass that came the year after. Now, these were recent reseeds as well, but there was a marked difference between fields that got P and didnt.

Looking at donedeal and see a few grass chain harrows there. Any know if there any good ? I've a lot of moss in my sward. Maybe it's just more visible at this time of year.
