There were incredible scenes on Dutch TV tonight after a gunman stormed the studios of the national broadcaster and demanded to be put on air.
NOS went off air for an hour after the suspect, who was carrying a pistol, seized control of the studio. But cameras continued to roll, recording the moment police rushed into to disarm him.

he had claimed to be a member of a hacker's collective working for Dutch intelligence.

No-one was hurt and no shots were fired during the incident, which interrupted the NOS evening news broadcast

Police said in a statement that the man demanded airtime and threatened that bombs would go off at several locations around the Netherlands if his demand was not met.
Special police units were searching the building.
The man's motive was unclear, but the NOS footage showed him saying: 'The things that are going to be said (pause) those are very large world affairs. We were hired by the security service.'

I'm guessing as he is a "hacker hired by intelligence services", he'll claim to be part of anonymous. Although why he couldn't just say what he wanted to say and not waste his time explaining where he came from and who he is - Just tell us the news!(if he had any)

Guy who entered the studio is 19 year old Tarik Zahzah. (dont worry, his name is all over Dutch websites including mirrors of his facebook)
Weapon was fake.

Remains the question how it was possible that a guy with a (fake) weapon is able to enter a live broadcast 2 weeks after "Paris" and in the same place as Pim Fortuyn was assassinated.

Guy would have felt really at home here on boards in the CT threads.

Yeah, nice one. Get the tin foil hat at the ready. Any one with anything to say should storm their nearest TV station with a gun, and ignore other routes like putting their 'news' on the internet or just telling a reporter.

What? I've an issue with water protesters at the moment. In that many of them appear to be sponging wasters. Should I march up to RTE, knock Brian Dobson out of his seat, and let the nation know of my strongly-held opinions?

"Many of them appear to be sponging wasters" How did you come to that conclusion? Have you talked to them? Do you know most of them? Are you assuming because people protest during the daytime they haven't got jobs? I'm really curious as to why you came to this conclusion as I work and am actively involved in the anti water charges movement.

Well I haven't had the opportunity to meet every protestor personally. I'm sure some of them are lovely. But the ones uploading videos to YouTube, commenting on websites and starting Facebook pages seem to have a very high percentage of wasters, spoofers, spongers and lowlifes in their ranks. The usual shower who expect everything for nothing but want to pay for nothing. Usually goaded on by a sinister fringe of republicans and loony lefties like that Murphy fool.

It's not unknown for hackers to be hired by companies for their expertise in order to prevent corporate espionage. It's likely most governments do the same.

I'm curious to hear what this guy has to say. Apparently both his parents died separately last week. If (and I stress IF) it turns out this man was indeed a hacker working for the Dutch intelligence services, that would certainly add a very suspicious dimension to all of this.

Meanwhile, local reports suggesting he had recently lost his parents had been proved incorrect, the NOS reported.
The man, identified only as "Tarik", has an Egyptian father and Dutch mother.
He is a student at the Delft Technical University outside south of The Hague and was described by one man interviewed by the NOS as a "normal guy".
