I'm due to fly out to Poland tomorrow with my wife. However, she cannot find her passport anywhere. We do have a photocopy of it. If I were to get this signed/stamped by the Gardai, along with a lost passport form that they do, what are the chances that Ryanair will actually accept this?

Does she have a national id card? What did she use to check in?

We don't have national Id cards so she can't have one. She doesn't drive so has no license either. She hasn't checked in yet. I can check her in as I have her passport details but if they won't let her board without the original passport, it doesn't really matter if I check her in unfortunately.

Call the dept of foreign affairs. They issue emergency passports. Did it a few years back.

If you can get your photos and forms from garda stamped etc.

Sorry I misread the op, thought she was Polish

Time is too tight for that. Flight is at 5pm from Shannon. Going up to Dublin, waiting in the office, and then driving back down etc would be cutting it way too tight.

Plus it's like 200e for a new one! Wow!

Ryanair aren't the problem. Passport Control in Poland will be.

Perhaps, but they may be willing to accept Garda documents where Ryanair aren't. They aren't willing to accept anything else for any route. That's their policy and it's certainly not their fault that this situation has arisen. It would just be nice if there were some way to get around it, as the passport details etc would be visible on the copy.

Only option is a Passport, a photocopy is generally only accepted when travelling inside the Schengen area even then its hit and miss.

A stamp from the Garda station has no bearing outside of Ireland for the purposes of travel.

Thankfully, the story has a happy ending as the passport has been located. I wonder if it's possible to get a passport case with gps and/or a sound activated alarm or something as she is regularly misplacing it! All's well that ends well, and thanks for all your input.

Just on that.... worth adding mobile number and email address to back of passport along with next of kin details and address etc....

theres plans for a new passport card, so will be good as an id (for pubs/ off licences etc and other daily stuff) as a second passport and also can stay in the wallet and is always locatable as its always on you

I saw that, out in July. Unfortunately, I'm well past the point where I'd be asked for a ID on a night out :D
