    Hi

So the remote central locking on my OH's Micra (k12) up until this evening used to work from quite some distance, now, all of a sudden it will only work if you literally hold the key against the window!!

Tried sthe pare key and same issue there.

Tried a new battery and no joy.

Could it be the signal "receiver" (whatever that may be?)

Is there a fuse I could check?

    Thanks

Thanks, i thought so too but the battery is ok as it starts the car fine and runs all the other elertics with no bother.

This is really annoying as we were supposed to be selling the car soon :(

Interestingly I have the same issue on the OHs Merc, used to be able to lock it from the house, it's parked about ten metres from the house, but it's hit and miss now.

Not sure it's the battery though as today I managed to "lock" it while leaving the drivers door open as the seatbelt was caught in it, and it started first time after eight hours.

Not of much use but I saw some programme once where they discovered if you held the remote against your head when pressing the button, you got greater distance. Not sure what it does to your brain !!

Ok mystery solved. It must be RF interference of some sort because I moved the to another spot further away (apartment complex) and the remote range is now back to normal.

I moved it back to the Spot where it was parked yesterday, quite close to apartment block, and range was reduced again to within window distance!

@Stheno. Is it a w203 C-Class?? My Dad's merc suffered the same problem, and aparently the Merch remote has both RF and IR receivers. There was a blown fuse/relay for the RF that was blown which mean to that just IR worked at close distance.

Somebody in the complex must have gotten some powerful wireless equipment!

Mobile phone transmitter masts have been known to interfere with remote central locking system frequencies in the past.
