    Hi there,

I want to make a purchase of a wet and dry vacuum cleaner that I will clean my cars upholstery also a good cleaning agent. I don't mind spending about 200/250€ on a decent hoover that can do this. There is oil on my seats not much just like hand and finger prints, also it just looks tired as its beige in color.

Have been looking at the Numatic George on Amazon for around 250€
    Link to George

Anyone any ideas on this ?

I've seen videos of a device called the tornador which are very impressive, you would need a compressor for it though. And maybe still need a wet vaccum, I am not sure.

How often are you going to use the George, because maybe you would be better off getting it done by a professional and keeping the cash in your pocket. Or you could rent one. Just an idea anyway.

    See I was think of getting it done professionally but a few things;
    1. Seems expensive 40/50€
    2. With Henry would use it on my Das car then the carpet on the stairs I could clean myself
    3. Don't mind doing it and would be fussy about it and do a better job than paying for it myself

I ordered it anyway. 250€ from Amazon warehouse, used but excellent condition say it was returned or something. Still has Amazons warranty so will give it a go 30£ cheap than the freshly boxed one.

Anyone got any recommendations on carpet cleaner to use for the car?

You'll want a low foaming fabric cleaner, upholstery cleaner, or even an All Purpose Cleaner...provided its low foaming! ;)

Hey, I have one of the george wet/dry vaccums. It's very easy to use and does a good job at whatever gets thrown at it. It doesn't leak or anything like that, but if you add too much detergent it will create a lot of foaming. Which will affect the suction and cut off the vaccum mode until you clear it out (rinse out machine). There are plenty videos showing it's operation on youtube. Get some CG fabric clean from detailing shed as it's better than the bottle of crap that comes with it.

As soon as the weather improves I'll be using it again. As with the damp weather it won't help to dry out the seats. They don't get soaking wet but enough to notice.

Cheers guys, will keep a look out for the low foaming stuff.

End up getting it from Littlewoods for 242€ brand new including delivery, bit of a bargain if you ask me !

Pick up some de-humidifier bags when you do go ahead with the job; available in the likes of Home Store & More, and throw them into the car after the job is done; they will help draw the dampness from the seats, mats and carpets quicker. Only a few quid each.

What the hell is the story with Littlewoods? My order was cancelled on Friday then I rang up and it was actually going ahead now today I got e-mail saying my order was cancelled, rang up the girl couldn't give me an answer. So afraid to order from Amazon in case this order goes ahead.

Would a steam cleaner be more effective? Would avoid the foaming problem??

I have used a hand held steam machine on the glass(interior and exterior) on my classic car. It would appear to break down all the grime and build up of unremoved window cleaning product.

Also used it once to remove some marks off the cars carpet following a good vacuuming.

The idea with wet extraction is to penetrate the fabric, and simultaneously removing the water. A steam cleaner would leave some excess water behind. I had considered the steam cleaner but after watching some videos and reading reviews etc it wasn't the best option to me.

Thanks, yes I see where you are coming from.

Looks like you are taking the correct course of action.

Tip, try cleaning the windows with stea, amazing result.!:)
