Vodafone VDSL with F1000

Just a heads up for people using vodafone.

I moved to vodafone a few months back from eircom efiber, happy with the service except for my wan IP being renewed every 24 hours. Not a huge problem only ~1 minute to renew but still annoying.

A few days ago I decided to use my old f1000 which I set up using the vodafone@vodafone.ie PPPoE details. Since then I haven't had any renewal of my Wan IP.

Also I've noticed a slight improvement on my upload speed using the f1000.

I was always synced at 20mb getting ~18mb now I'm getting over 19mb. Only a minor improvement but better than nothing.

I'm also thinking about unbranding the F1000

F1000 definitely seems that bit better.

Unlock the F1000, flash new firmware, set wifi Mode N only and you will have a very decent router.

    Does vectoring still work?

Would that also work with the Vodafone router?

    Yes, the Zyxel VMG8324-B10a, aka F1000, supports G.Vector, ITU-T G.993.5.
Would that also work with the Vodafone router?

I believe so, it is reported on this forum post that the HG658c supports vectoring.

Would I be able to use the HG658c with Sky?

I have a Wireless N router I was using before VF supplied their own Huawei one - could it still be used instead? Might test it later to see.

If you have your sky login details yes, they don't give them out though, you'll have to extract it from the sky router.

Is it the old one that doesn't support VDSL?

Yeah, I know about all that, it just that the router doesn't let you enter the username or password.

You'll need to change from the Vodafone firmware, it's come up here before

Yeah, I was thinking about flashing it with the O2 firmware but I was worried about vectoring not working. I really don't want to be stuck with the Sky hub piece of junk.

Hypothetical question here, I'm currently with Vodafone for fibre and I use their modem in bridge mode with a Netgear router.

If I were to change over to sky or eircom fibre (thanks to vodafones decision to enforce their 300gb fup) I assume I would only need to change the username and password in the Netgear router and I could carry on without having to figure out how to bridge the sky / eircom router?

For Eircom yes, but not for sky as sky have unique username and password, you'd need to extract that from the hub they send you as they don't give it out

So I flashed it last night and vectoring still works. The username and password are no longer greyed-out, so it should be ready for use with Sky should I switch over.

just wondered did you ever set it up with Sky? i have an unlocked F1000 and can't seem though to get it over the line even though i have extracted sky user/password from Sky Hub.
