So a dealer selling a car brought in from UK (or NI). How do I check the history of it over in the UK? A cartell check is showing on the dealers site. Does this include UK? Wouldn't have though so.

Do your own check on Cartell or Motorcheck. Get the dealer to provide UK reg. They include UK checks.

OR do a check on any of the UK checking sites? (assuming you can get the previous UK Reg of course).

Examine the car's service history, verify that the car's VIN on the car matches that in the log book and service history. Also do your own car history report, don't rely on the seller's one. Ring the UK garages in the service book and verify what they did at what mileage with what is in the service book.

Unlike over here in the UK there is alot more information available on a car's history. Any UK car that has no or a missing service history should be treated as very suspect as they are alot more meticulous about documenting car maintenance than over here.

Thanks for the replies guys. The car is from NI.

Would anyone mind taking a look at an ad on donedeal for me and telling what they think? I've never bought a car on my own before and would rather not put the link up. :) Will someone agree to look and I'll PM?

    HPI check hpicheck.com (uk website)

and also check mileage MOT data (will need V5C) motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-Internet-History-Request.jsp

Running the UK Reg through mywheels.ie will only cost you €10 or €12. I ran one a few days ago on a "Cat D" Insurance repair after the NI dealer declaring such but wanted to check for more detail myself. Small money to pay for some additional peace of mind. The report had a big Red Flag warning of the Cat D issue but came up with no other anomalies. The dealer was not able to confirm if there was no chassis damage, (which may or may not have been fixed properly) so I am walking away.
