Ok I'm currently doing a BBS degree and I'm trying to contemplate what postgraduate area to branch into afterwards. Were I to do a professional diploma in accounting in DCU, what sort of career opportunities currently exist in accounting? Is there much scope for promotion, are many career opportunities available in the big firms for graduates or does one need to build experience first? From people's experience on here what are starter salaries like?

No one can answer those questions for you because they depend on so many factors that we don't know! Whether you succeed or not depends not only on your education and experience, but even more so on your drive, personality, ability to play office politics and a bit of luck in bringing in the right place at the right time.

Yes there are plenty of opportunities in accounting for people to do interesting things, get promotion and be well compensated for it. But will that be you, I can not say.

What I can tell you is that if you find something that you are passionate about and concentrate on that you will be far more successful at it than anything else. And you'll probably find the financial side will worke out OK too.
