DPD effort at helping us to get our parcels quicker without them having to drive around to houses with no one in.

    https://www.dpdparcelwizard.ie/

seems to allow to schedule your deliveries based on where you are that day.

What band wagon are they jumping on? if you mean copying or somehow imitating Parcel Motel services they are two completely different services and offerings.

This is a great free service offered by them to give the people they deliver to the ability to check when their parcels will arrive so they can arrange to be at home or leave address directions or instructions for the driver or make arrangements for delivery to an alternate address.

I register when it 1st came out, but no Virtual address in the north like the others, I only use Parcel Motel and Parcel Connect for the virtual address.

considering at the moment DPD can't even get the day right when delivering to me at the moment I wouldn't be holding my breath trying to book a time slot with them !!

I got a delivery from Meteor the other day and the driver arrived within the advertised 90minute window, parcel motel is very expensive for what it is! they basically drop your goods into a depot and you must collect from the depot/motel within the timeframe or pay more!

Sounds like a great idea and wish more delivery companies jump on that bandwagon!

I wish UPS offered a better delivery window that just saying "today" or maybe tomorrow if today is too busy.

Due a delivery which was showing as out for delivery up to 5 minutes ago and now it states Delay due to Severe weather! and they won't give any timeframe to deliver so it most likely wont be today! Worst delivery company ever!!

not yet! - We use DPD for deliveries and we had been given demo of this last July. We have also been shown somethign else that will be better than parcel motel.

From initial looks its a virtual mainland UK address and it automatically delivers to your registered address on the day you have chosen.

E.G, you order from UK today, and on your parcel wizard you say you only want saturday deliveries, then even if it arrives in the dpd depot on Wednesday, it is automaticlaly delivered to you on the following saturday. Dunno the cost of it though.

That would be great as some ebay sellers they don't deliver to Northern Ireland addresses.

I have signed up when it originally became available and so far with mixed results.

The reason I signed up is because it allows you very easy to stop them from delivering on a certain date and just do it on another day. Way better than going to collect it from a parcel motel etc.

However I find that not in all case the fact that I have an event in the calendar saying not to deliver is honored by the local depot. Just last week I came home to find that a delivery was done to the neighbor instead of being held for the next day and that without any status updates in the online tracker or the usual 1 hour window notification.

In principle the idea is great when one orders from a company that uses DPD and the delivery date is not clear. However in practice right now it does not work for me.

Registered a week ago, it looks rather interesting as can get my deliveries to different addresses depending on the day of the week.. But what I find even better is the text message with the time that the driver is going to be there..

I actually just cancelled my Parcel Motel account and I don't think so that these two things are anywhere close. Fed up with our local locker there's always something wrong with it. Sick and tired of having to drive 15 miles and not being able to get my parcel. It's not worth it specially now that everyone has free delivery over £50

But what's Parcel Connect?? Jee there are so many out there..

This can only be used where DPD are the selected courier by the online retailer though is that correct?

I can't buy from anywhere, get it sent to DPD and then pay a small fee to have them hold it until a day where I will be home to be able to have it delivered?

So it has very limited appeal in reality?

Not really as everything I buy online gets delivered by them.. River Island - Mothercare - Zara - Topshop etc..

And as a matter of fact I think you can do what you're saying without having to pay any fee at all... Haven't tried it yet and not sure if they're watching over us so don't really want to say more in public :p

I don't see this working out well in the long run. Courier companies make these great offers for customers without a thought to the guys that have to work them into their schedule and no more staff will get taken on even though there is more work. If the drivers can't fit in the timings then they'll probably ignore any special instructions and try and deliver as if they don't exist.

    Drivers ignoring instructions, in Ireland?

    Nah, can't see it... :D

Seriously, though, let's presume they've thought this through and, if they can 'deliver' on it, it's a very significant improvement to their service, foc. To be welcomed.

If it's done right, the extra work won't really fall to the drivers. If.

I'm sure they have a plan in place for that.. It's not like we're talking about a local guy with a van, it's DPD..

I'm not so sure about this.. I'm pro post-codes but not Eircode.. I don't think it's going to work at all... #fingerscrossedthough

I will finally have something valid to enter under the postcode field instead of 11111

At the door to door delivery end its just a man with a van. The plan is to make more money not spend it on more drivers.

I know what you mean but because I've used it and I think that it's something that all courier services around here should have a look at and I really hope they won't cancel it, as it's so convenient for me at the mo, I've been waiting for the UPS & DHL guy all day long just to get a text from a neighbour that they've been delivering something to them and they left my parcel there too... (?!) GLS are even worst

What I'm trying to say is if they know where you are, why would they need more drivers? On the contrary it looks more like saving time to me, since they don't have to knock on my door and waste time when I'm not there.

I get around 3 - 4 deliveries from them every week, both for work and private ones. I always get the same driver, great lad, always has a smile on his face and I just feel like I have to stand up for them for some reason :p Are you a driver? It must be one of the hardest jobs, specially here with this weather

Its better if they don't know where I am because then they phone me and can't use excuses like I wasn't in :) If they know where I am many of them don't bother and find an excuse like I wasn't in

No but bil was a driver and had a nervous breakdown trying to keep to all the deadlines because he was too conscientious. You need a don't give a sh!t attitude if you want to keep your marbles doing that sort of work.

That's a fact! It's not just the rules you've got to follow, not just the traffic and occasional road rage, but still keeping a smile on your face and deal with every lunatic that you have to deliver to - myself included :P

The last time I was getting stuff delivered by DPD/Interlink was some engine parts for the vintage car that I had machined in the UK. The company who did the machining phoned us to make sure that we were happy with the parts, were the fitting instructions OK, was the engine on a rolling road yet etc. Naturally we had no delivery and the supplier got a bit of a land.....

After many phone calls by us to the Cork and Ireland office we got nowhere and the parcel was "lost". When we said that both us and the UK supplier in the UK were going to take legal action, the parcel's status changed from "lost" to "missing". Eventually, the supplier in the UK camped in his local UK office and they found the parcel sitting in the Cork office. Armed with that nugget (and a screen grab that the UK supplier emailed us) the Cork Office "found" the parcel. It turns out that there was "nobody there when delivery was attempted" (lies as we could show) and when it wasn't delivered they didn't return it to the supplier as per his contract with DPD. The state of the box suggested it was kicked about when we went to collect it. We didn't bother waiting for them to drop it out.

Is there a service that has a mainland UK address?

NI address with Parcel Motel and Parcel Connect is nowhere near as good especially with eBay.
