Changes to Cricket World Cup Qualification for 2019

It would mean that there is an incentive for teams like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh to try to beat us to move up since they're in 9th/10th anyway. 7th/8th probably won't want to play us too much because they've more too lose. Certainly a step in the right direction though.

should mean a lot more games against the other full members
    I'm sure it should, but
However, while this announcement is encouraging for Ireland and Afghanistan there remains a challenge for them to find enough ODIs to make their chance of rising up the table realistic. Since the last World Cup, for example, Ireland have played just 11 ODIs against Full Member teams. There also remains a feeling that teams close to them in the rankings, with the most to lose when it comes to World Cup qualification, will be reluctant to play them and risk losing.
Without the FTP or some other stick to beat the Full Members with the odds are we will end up with less ODIs then we were playing (now we are out of the WCL). Even if a stick comes out, will it force a balance in home and away fixtures, or will we end up playing all our ODIs against BNG/ZIM over there? Last time the WIndies were here they weren't exactly keen to put their ranking points on the line either.

IOW I hope each Full Member has to play a pair of ODI series (say 3 games) against us, home and away, over the course of the qualifying period.

It seems Cricket Ireland were incentivised by the ECB to not have too many ODIs. Very disappointing and bizzare given the fertile opportunity to grow the game here.

Jesus that link is depressing. The point about ODIs between us and the ECB is depressing.

Oh well, there's plenty of people just happy to have the one ODI against an English B team each year

So far there are 2 ODIs planned for this summer, one in May against England and the other at the end of August against Australia, why is there nothing organised with New Zealand?

I'd like to see CI push for closer cooperation with Pakistan since they seem relatively interested in actually coming to Ireland and they have a decent fanbase already here. And Ireland should repay the favour and tour Pakistan (once the security situation is ok)

Just as a comparison, Bangladesh manage about 9-20 ODIs each year,Zimbabwe usually even more

Jesus. Just stumbled across this thread.
Even Sepp Blatter would be embarassed to stand over this kind of a qualification process.

Cup format still to be decided

    Posted at 09:01
There could be hope for the associate nations yet. The number of teams taking part in the 2019 World Cup hasn't been finalised yet according to the International Cricket Council. The ICC have been criticised for plans to reduce the number of teams involved in England in four years' time to 10 from 14. But ICC chief executive David Richardson has had this to say to AFP...
"I've learnt never to say never to anything. I'm sure the format of the next World Cup will be debated after this one has finished. I'm pleased with the performances of the qualifiers so far, but the bigger tests are still to come. The question is what do you want the World Cup to be? Do you want it to be a jamboree of world cricket or the pinnacle of the one-day game?"

surely the story of this WC has been the achievements of Ireland and Ahghanistan.
Do the powers that be just want to keep the game just exclusive to the Top 9 ?

Would it not be wise to expand the game to more countries and a bigger audiences ?

Good piece in the Guardian today about possible change to qualification rules.

    http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/oct/16/west-indies-cricket-world-cup-ireland-england-2019

Basically saying top 6 teams only would qualify by right, and rest would have to fight it out, associate or "full" nations. West indies probably under biggest threat if that were to come to pass?

It would be great if we can find both men's and women's Ireland teams in ICC cricket world cup 2019.
