anybody on here clarify the way the feile is being run this year in the football?

My lad is competing this year and I think they were all hoping to defend the feile A win they got last year but turns out they wont be in Feile A this year but feile B

I know there is a change to the whole system since last yr running regional competitions aswell, but it doesnt look like the previous years feile A champions will get a chance to defend if they were to get that far...

    Thanks

it should not be about a title, but as many players as possible participating and enjoying playing

Each club enters Feile at the level they choose themselves so it would seem that your club believe the team is much weaker this year. Or maybe they are hoping for a "soft" medal :D

I agree and I'm sure the way it has been re-structured since last yr to hold regional finals this will allow for that....my query is based on the players and them wondering why they are not in the A and get the opportunity

if this is the reason then thanks for clarifying

Was told last night each county plans to run a grading blitz. Wexford are planning to run theirs next month. No clue how it's actually going to work.

Edit. Don't take this as gospel. Whether it holds true for every county remains to be seen.

It seems a bit daft to me when you consider that every club in a county is already graded by division for county championship purposes.

Everyone says Feile is supposed to be all about fun,etc....a sort of teenage Community Games.

    Reality is somewhat different however.

Many clubs go all out to win the thing.

The idea of Regional Feile one day tournaments has been popular I think and saved clubs a lot of expense.

well, I never had a problem with the overcompetitiveness of the event it as a child, as I never knew of their existance in the first place.

I actually had to look up there if Cavan was included in the event, or if the event even is too new that I couldn't have been involved, but no, its on the go since the early 80s and even was held first in Cavan in 1982.

Some joke of a youth competition/ festival if you can grow up a GAA mad youth and never hear of it!

that's down to your club though. Your club has the option of entering a team or not in the county set up, which then feeds onto the national feile

My son has been asked to train with the North London Team, I would love him to go if picked, it is a great memory to have.

Well I heard of it alright when I was young but I knew my club would never be part of it as it just wasn't for small clubs.

That's why I like the new inclusive approach i.e. it is now a competition for all clubs.

Aren't the London boys traditionally "over age"...?

I'd be surprised if they were given the identity checks we have to go through to register. Dulwich Harps who make up the bulk of the South London team have a very big side of mainly black players. We played them in the semi final of the All Britain Championships and they were huge. I have no reason to suspect they were over age given we seem to encounter the same size boys on soccer and rugby fields. Their goalie U12 was a good inch taller than me and I am 5' 11"

Regionals take place this weekend for hurling and the following weekend is football. Dublin will be represented by the 4 Div1 semi finalists and the Div2 finalists in both codes. Leinster Provincial Féile has been pulled this year
