Replacement floor boards 6inch+ for 1950's house

    Hi,

We have sanded floor boards in the upstairs of our 1950's house. Some recent plumbing and electrical works has meant that some of the previously nailed down boards have been very badly damaged (split, cracked) while been lifted. We want to replace some of the boards.

Looking for advice on where we can source the 6inch + boards in North Dublin city.

I rang Grange Builder Providers in Baldoyle but the guy(very helpful) said that while the boards are described as 6" Tongue & groove in reality they are not quite 6" wide.

I know from measuring ours that they were 6" plus a little. I'll measure again tonight.

Grange suggested that we drop in with a piece of the current board and see what is the best match we can get. I can't do this until Saturday.

In advance if anyone has sourced similar boards, I would be grateful to know where you got them.

    Thanks in advance.

My guess is that the boards u have have proper imperial and what grange have is metric.
Unless you have other business in Grange I would'nt bother.
You may also have a thickness issue.
Finally, retro-fitting T&G is not easy for obvious reasons so unless u are lifting a lot I would think of getting some timber custom planed, and removing the tongue of the relevant boards in situ.
It will not be easy to get it anywhere near perfect so it depends on what the boss expects: u need to manage expectations here.

If you do lift a lot, consider retro fitting some insulation

This may be a bit late for the op but may help someone, the boards you are looking for are probably 7/, 1 1/4 , flooring boards which gave finished dimensions of approximately 6 1/4 wide by 1 inch thick, they were used mainly as flooring in commercial premises or for sheeting in doors , there hard enough to find but are still available , Declan Byrne timber in Carlow stock them.
