Passport Advice

    Hi folks,

My current passport is damaged. Basically it has come away from the spine and two pages have fallen out. I've had different advice on getting a replacement. Since I still have my current passport and the photo id page is still there and not damaged would they possibly treat it as a normal renewal or do I have to send in my long birth certificate along with proof of name and address and photo id. My passport is my only identification at the minute.

I've tried ringing the advice line but due to high demand they aren't answering the phones.

    Thanks

Normal renewal. No birth cert. But i would double check with the pp office because you still have your passport and it is still in date. Though more than likely you are just looking at a renewal, surrendering your current pp.

Any passport that is missing pages or certain other damage (especially missing corners) will throw up warning signs for any immigration or police officer inspecting it.

It you want to use it as a travel document (especially outside the Common Travel Area), you would be well advised to get a replacement. It would be a normal replacement, but they may ask you to account for the missing pages.

They are just missing in that they have fallen out. I still have them on my person.

Damaged passports are treated the same as lost ones as far as I recall. You have to reapply in the normal way and also have to get an additional signature witnessed by a Garda on the second page as well as the usual one on the last page. You have to include documentation as if you were applying for a first passport.

Cheers mate. I'll have to be more careful with it from now on.
