    Eugh!
Caught (I presume) by a GoSafe Van tonight. Completely empty road (M3) doing about 175km/h
Am I looking at an Automatic court appearance and possible ban?
    Yes stupid speed, I know!
Feel sick at the thought as can't afford to lose my licence (should have thought of that).
Any insight would be gratefully received.

Gosafe don't operate on any motorways.
    Garda vans do.

If it was a speed van, as it's an automated process, you'll just get a regular €80 3 point ticket.

What's the difference in the design of the vans?

It was definitely one of these

The Garda ones have either no markings at all, or a few garda logos stuck on here and there

This one had the big camera symbol on the side.
So it was definitely the GoSafe one AND on a motorway. Chance it was a deterrent van?

Gosafe vans do operate on the motorways , don't know , in old money it used to be 100mph and a court appearance so the story goes , 175 kph - 108 mph . Might want to find the lad who was taking it for a test drive and has a uk address .

Passed a gosafe van on the motorway at Naas a couple of times , it was parked up on the ramp the gardai use . Gosafe van was a white ducato with the markings , the Garda gatso in naas is an unmarked transit .

There is a section of road near Naas that is a motorway and GoSafe do have a zone on it. And it appears the section of the M3, north bound, from Mulhuddart is a GoSafe zone.

    All here: http://www.garda.ie/gosafe.htm

I saw that but it also says in the list that number 253 (which that one is) is on a regional road

Just tagging onto this thread rather than start a new one, can't seem to find up to date info.

Garda Corps on the motorways don't have to be outside the car anymore to get speeding do they? Am I right in that the only cameras used are inside the car, no longer the hairdryer or tripods?

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get the speeding fine in the post?

Anyone attempting such a scheme might first want to acquaint themselves with the risks associated, specifically the possibility of a conviction for perverting the course of justice.

I and others must post weekly on this topic. There is literally an encycopedia of info here if you Google.

Gardai generally use handheld or tripod mount laser guns. They can be used inside and outside the car. They do not have attached cameras, at least, its extremely rare.

The cameras inside the car, made by Cleartone, can be simply ANPR (Tax, insurance etc) or can have radar capabilities. Depends on the car but radar from what I've seen is rare. Generally if they remain inside the car, they will 'pace' you. That is, the video evidence of you exceeding the speedlimit according to their speedo (Overlayed on the video) will be admissible as evidence.

Either way, a Garda will pull you if you are caught speeding.

Anywhere between 3 days and month from what I've heard.
