    Hi guys,

first post in the EV section but a question arose in the main motors chat thread last night but those of us interest never got an answer.

Someone posted that a Leaf gets parked on the on street charger every night in Dun Laoighre and that they often witness and see a young guy unplugging it 10-20 minutes after the owner has left.

Some of us thought this wasn't possible as it locks in position but nobody was too sure.

So, do they lock in position or can someone being a twat just unplug it?

The end connected to the mains power is locked during charging, but the other end is only locked if the owner selects the lock function, so in theory it could be disconnected. It's a good idea to activate the lock when on street parking, another potential downside if not is that the charging cable could be stolen.

The older models (mine is 2012) don't have a lock function so I padlock mine to the car. Also protects your cable from damage. But it is locked to the charger, only the card used to activate the machine can unlock it.

Didn't realise that. Shows how much on street charging I do :-)

Your cable might have a hole for a padlock, on the car end. if not people can put a padlock around the cable and onto the charge port to stop cable being taken.
As said only the gen 1.5 has an auto lock on the j1772 port.
