Complete novice need help with shoes and pedals.

    So I've only got a mountain bike at the moment but I've been looking online at bikes and reviews and in a lot of reviews I've been looking at the customer replaced the pedals, so is there many different types of pedals and shoes and do you buy shoes and pedals together? I'm looking to buy a bike for races only. So what kind of pedal and shoe would be best?

    Pedals and shoes are sold separately. Pedals usually come with cleats though.

    Road shoes are different to MTB shoes.

    Yes.

    However, not all shoes will take all cleats. Some cleats are three bolt and others are two bolt. A lot of shoes will do both types but not all.

    Be sure that your chosen shoe will accept the cleats required for your pedals.

    You can use mountain bike shoes & pedals on a road bike, but not really vice versa.
    spd are mountain bike pedals
    spd-r are road bike pedals
    Chain reaction had spd pedals with a platform on one side for 23 euros, so you can use them with ordinary shoes, or spd shoes.
    Aldi sell spd shoes for 20 euros now and again, or you can spend 40 or so up in a bike shop.

    road shoes and pedals are more expensive.

    Hi, are the spd shoes available in all aldi stores or just stock clearance in particular store?

    Another thing to point out is that MTB shoes are usually easier to walk in as the cleat is generally recessed. Road shoes tend to make you walk like a constipated duck. If you're planning on having to do any walking (commuting, coffee stops, just walking around looking at things etc), MTB shoes are the way to go
