Access to email for Alumni

    Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone else is having the same issue but my email account has been blocked and I have been told that it was because I was finished my course. I had been given no notice that it was going to be blocked and therefore have some important emails and contacts which I never got to save on to a new account. One of the biggest issues that I have is the inconsistency of this practice as a number of my friends still have access to their emails even when some graduated over a year or two ago. So why is it that my email is blocked and some others aren't? Is there any way, as an alumni, to gain access to my emails?

    Thanks

Are you sure about the bolded bit? When you say "access", do you mean the forwarding bit still works? I'd bet that they more than likely can't actually open their email account and send emails from it etc.

I think I got about 8 months' grace after finishing my PhD - the October following graduation, I think. That seems to be a fairly standard time.

Contact computer services immediately and they might be able to allow you rather limited access to your account.

The system is a pain in the ass though, and outlook is horrible - I don't know why anyone uses their @nuigalway account for anything other than spam.

What happens to my computer account after I leave NUI,Galway?

After Graduation the Campus Accounts of students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) that are not listed as registered with the University in the Student Record System will be disabled. Access to IT resources is directly linked to a student’s status on the Student Records System (Quercus). Students have 50 days after their course end date to register for a new course and maintain access to IT resources including email and Blackboard.
