M11 slowing to a halt

I'm wondering why the traffic slows to a halt around Cherrywood exit?

Happens almost everyday, tipping along nicely at 100 on the m50, get to stillorgan, up to 120 and then you hit cherrywood or if you're lucky bray north and the road becomes a car park.

    I exit at bray south

Just wondering as I work in the airport and half my journey home is spent on that stretch alone

At a guess I would say it's probably a combination of the M11 and M50 converging into a road that is only the capacity of either one (this is south of Cherrywood), coupled with the drop in speed limit a bit further down the line. Add on any occasional RTAs to that, and it's always going to slow down.

I think a lot of it is also down to incompetent merging at the M50/M11 merge, mainly cars coming from the M11 pushing their way in at the very earliest opportunity, even going over the cross hatches to do so, when they've effectively got over a km to do so.

4 lanes merging into 2, there are inevitably going to be queues when it is busy. They need to extend the 3 lane section as far a J7 at least.

TBF, if you do continue on towards the end of the 3rd lane, jerks won't let you merge back in because you're "queue-jumping" in their eyes. Then you have to stop, and block the lane for traffic behind you trying to take the exit. The road layout need improving but ultimately the 3rd lane has to be extended.
