    Hi folks

I am considering buying this hoover. However considering the price, I'm concerned that it may not be suitable as the only hoover for the entire house (which has a mixture of wooden, tiled and carpet floors).

    All views are welcome

    Cheers!

    Hi mods

Haven't got a response to my query yet - have I put this post in the best category?

    cheers!

I wouldn't personally consider a cordless vacuum cleaner as the only one for the home. It's more convenient as a standby for mess, instead of lugging out the proper vac.

For a good proper household vacuum, consider a Miele S8, or even a Henry (the Henry Xtra has an added hard-floor head and pets head)

Personally I wouldn't bother with this vacuum at all! Bought one about a year ago and it is useless and I ended up buying Nilfisk gm80 instead and the Dyson rarely gets used. It holds very little dirt, it continuously runs out of battery (which seems to be especially when you are half way down the stairs!) and it is useless at picking up even small pieces of paper, etc, and you end up having to bend down and pick them up yourself. Miele vacuums are quite good, however the catches tend to snap easily and the bags are extremely expensive. Henrys are great little vacuums but if you want to spend a few quid and get a virtually indestructible vacuum I can't recommend the Nilfisk gm80 enough, suction is brilliant, bags are cheap and they hold tons of dirt before they need emptying. Oh and just in case anyone thinks I work for Nilfisk, I don't, I have worked in hotels for 20 years ad have tried and tested many many different models and the Nilfisk is the only one that can stand up to every day use and abuse for years.

    Hi folks

Many thanks for the feedback on the Dyson - think i'll defo knock that one on the head!

I had bought a new AEG hoover back in August, but found it really hard to use on carpets, and also found it very bulky. Have since flogged it off to a relative, so am now looking for a replacement, and don't want to end up with another hoover which is also hard to use on carpets. What is the Miele S8 and Nilfisk GM80 hoovers like on carpets?

    Thanks again!

Can only comment on the GM80 as am not familiar with the S8. The GM80'S are not the smallest vacuum in the world nor the nicest looking but in my opinion they are fairly easy to use on carpets and have great suction so much so that you will actually see the carpet being lifted up! Have a look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFxVcEhjnjo and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0dvF2sK5TU which may help you make up your mind.

Actually, that's a good shout on the Nilfisk GM80, they're damn good vacuum cleaners. About for decades, and can also last decades. Parts, etc. also easily got for them, including the likes of power flexes.
