Ring them and sort out a payment plan over two years-also record it and put it up here for our amusement!

At most, pay the actual creditor. Don't give the debt collection agency a single cent.

Send them a cheque but spell their name slightly incorrectly.

Wait for cheque to be returned..

    Repeat....:D

1 cent per month for the next 11.5 years ought to do it.

Send them 2 euro, then every 3 days send them a letter stating that they owe you 63 cent or you'll be forced to take legal action.

Just ignore it.. same thing would apply if they were chasing €137

Worst thing you can do is acknowledge that they've ever contacted you.

    From their website
What happens if I ignore the reminder letters?

Your creditor will be within their rights to take further action including possible legal action if you decide to ignore the reminder letters. This may result in additional costs being added to the amount you owe.

Never ignore a reminder. There are always solutions available such as paying by instalments. If you keep in contact with us throughout the process and keep to an agreed payment plan you can avoid possible extra costs. If you do not pay the amount owed, this may affect your ability to obtain credit and in certain circumstances it may also affect whether you are able to obtain certain types of employment.

They will keep racking up the expenses!

You should offer them 'double or quits' on a coin toss.
If they refuse they look unreasonable and you have the moral high ground.

You're just going to get misinformation here. Like the thing about "Don't pay the agency, only the originator" - it is simply untrue; barstool law. The originator will have advised in its terms and conditions that a debt can be passed to a third party, so they're not even owed it anymore.

    What is it for anyway?

If you owe it, you owe it. Just pay it (to cover your own ass more than anything else) and ask them how the hell it came to a debt letter; it was probably a clerical error.

Pay with a cheque. It will cost them about €6 to cash it!

Send them the whole amount in pennies in a padded envelope and ask for a receipt.

Counter the offer, send them a similar letter stating they owe you €1.37.

You're under no obligation to engage with the debt collection agency, and would be far better off contacting the original creditor rather than the collection agency if you ever get such a letter.

I wonder how much of a commision Intrum Justitia get if a debt is paid through them ?

    Meh - didn't say otherwise ;)

But some companies sell off their debt at a discount to specialist debt recovery companies - their the ones you need to watch ...

Seems like a case where you didn't owe it; the OP may very well owe it, even if it's only a small amount.

    Never mind previous comments.
Just read your letters, was impressive.

So did anything more ever come of that?
Gave you a Thanks, nine years later. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,604 ✭✭✭dave1982

well posting it cost them 68c

So thats 52% of the €1.37, factor in costs of envelope, paper then letter was printed on and the ink used.Oh not forgetting the wage they paid the person to create the letter.

I say they are at a loss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,986 ✭✭✭ambro25

The Valeyard - nothing at all. I mean, other than never giving any business to DHL since ;)

For the letters, in fairness that had been (a small part of-) my job for 2-3 years by that time, and I was still training...you ought to see the standard 9 years later, even if I will say so myself:D

Venus, perfectly reasonable & fair comment. Yet, I bet there isn't a living & (regretfully-) breathing organism at Intrum Justitia who even knows that the company is chasing the OP (for however little or much) ;)

Not bad, but we can do better. Work out the correct conversion in old Irish pennies and pay in this. Tell them they can convert them to Euros in the Central Bank.

You can't spell Justitia without the tit.
