Im undecided If i should upgrade my current system or just build again from scratch. I have about 300 quid alongside whatever I get for my own PC.
Main uses for the PC are basic rendering in Maya, Photo processing and motion design in after affects. I also want to be able to play GTA5 when its out.

    Current specs are:
    AMD FX6300
    AS Rock 970 Pro 3
16GB (4x4 sticks) of Crucial Ballistix 1600mhz ram
    MSI Gamers Series GTX660
    Corsair 300R
    Corsair cx600
    CM 212Evo
    120GB Kingston SSD
    3TB HDDs(2TB and 1TB Seagate Barracuda)

So My question is should I upgrade, sell my system and rebuild or just leave it as it is?

No need to start from scratch at all.

Your question should be do you get a new mobo and cpu. Or a New graphics card.

    Rest of rig is solid.

Sell your mobo cpu and gpu. Is what id do.

I was thinking of going for a new CPU/Mobo and a few months down the line getting maybe a 970 or 980 or seeing what AMD come out with. But undecided if moving to an Xeon or i7 is really worth it and not sure what to go for.

would i be better holding off on my current system for maybe another year and wait until ddr4 and 4k is actually slightly more affordable or bite the bullet and invest now?

If you are happy with the rig playing games then there is no rush hold off.
