Hi all, I drive a Nissan almera salon 2005 and it's driving me nuts with problems. Can anyone help me out, first of all the rear window defogger isint working when you touch the button the light flixs on then back off.. Second of all the heater system stopped working as well one day it was working perfect then all of a sudden it just stopped. I checked all the fuses and there all fine would it be down to the electrics and if it is would it be an easy fix

You say it just stopped. Is it blowing out cold air or not blowing anything? If it's blowing cold air then; Check your coolant level, if it has dropped then your water pump has failed. Also look on the ground for coolant leaking out then source it back if it's around where you timing belt is then it's the pump.

Ive a spare fan/heater/demister control unit laying about, its off an older Almera than yours, not sure what yours looks like so it may not suit/fit, if any other solutions dont come up. Where are you based?

It doesn't put out any air what so ever it's the newer model almera so all touch dials that's why I was thinking it was electrical and i only topped up the coolent last November so that's grand and no leaks either

I dont think its the same, this one has two rotary dials on the outer parts, heat and fan speed and a demister button and something else.

Theres a place in the north, think you can order online from them, Traynors??
I think you can order new or secondhand parts? someone else might come along with the right name, not 100% sure as havent used them myself.

edit, but it would be worth locating the root of the fault before ordering anything, and may be worth even trying to locate any parts here from scrap?

I had one of them before and if all the radio buttons are working but a totally dead heater it may the climate control ECU. I had one of them go before and it was €300 fix from the main dealer about 7 years ago.

If the heater is blowing at one speed only it's the heater resistor pack (€80 I think fitted) but I'd try that first instead of forking out for a climate control ECU (find a good one to try first).

If you're only getting cold air, as others have said you've a water leak/airlocked heater matrix.

As for the rear window, it's probably a break in the wiring at the rear window. The cure depends on how good you are at soldering......

As for swapping the radio/heater control I think that they are coded to the car so a simple swap may not be possible.

I know its so counterintuitive its the only time I ever had to read an instruction manual to get something working.

If there's no air coming out of the vents whatsoever then the motor has failed and will have to be replaced. You should find a good used one in a breakers yard.
They're about 300 euro new from a main dealer ! Any good auto electrician should be able to do the job.

It's the resister, on the the older models if the resister went the heater would only work on NO.4 setting, not so on the newer ones. It's a small box that sits into the side of the heater assembly just to the left of the clutch pedal ,think it's either an 8 mm or Philips x two, 30 Euro from scrap yard ,bring along old one to be sure, hope this helped .
