    Hi,
I have a01 golf diesel. When I set the switch on the roof for the lights to come on when the door is open the light stays on regardless of the door position (any) or if the engine is running. The rear door lights behave the same so they must be permanently turned off. Funny thing is, the lights in the lower part of the front doors behave as they should.
I can't find the door switches that usually would control these lights. Mentioning that weIt might be worth mentioning that we unlock the car by putting the key in the door lock as oppose to using some remote fob as there was only the one key that came with the car.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
switches that control the cabin light are part of the door lock mechanism on the MK 4 golf .
They give a fair bit of trouble, there is a good bit of info on VW sites regarding repair / replacement.

    hope this helps
