does this sound normal? , so far their work has been excellent, but this is too steep

i really can't afford this, thinking maybe abroad is a good option.

    has anyone got any recommendations?

You will save nothing going abroad for a single crown, never mind the fact that front crowns should never be done on a tight schedule.

THats a specialist clinic, your paying for superior product. If the fees are too great you would be better considering a cheaper local dentist. The results are unlikely to be comparable.

Its not the urgency I refer to rather that when you travel long distances for treatment your on a tight schedule.

The option of delaying fitting a crown and allowing for further healing or a remake, or a shade adjustment or any of the number of things that separate a good crown from a rubbish one are simply not there because your flight leaves, or you would need another few days off work, or you don't want to put another 100 euro in petrol in your car....do you get what I mean?

    kind of

just wanna see can I get it done cheaper. what would be the price for a standard crown, from a non specialist. The crown in question is to replace one i had done 7 years ago which was completely knocked out due to external impact

If you google for dentists around where you live or work you will find there are a range of prices. There is levels of specification to suit most people so long as you are will to make some compromises.

Most practices will list their range of prices for crown on their website, or can tell you over the phone.
How come the crown needs to be replaced after 7 years?
How much did you pay for the original crown- how has that crown worked out in terms of cost per year?

Two people in my workplace had crowns done recently.
One person had one done in Kildare for around €850.
The other person had it done in Newry for around €200.

I'd be very interested to see the dental laboratory invoices for both crowns....

    €200 :p
Crowns start at around 250 - 350 GBP or 370 - 470 euro in the North, and that would be a nasty enough NHS sort of crown. You will find similar standard in the south for about 400- 500 euro (you would spend more on fuel up and down than the difference). Good crowns, by good labs and good dentist cost the same in the north as the south. 200 euro is either a dream or they are having you on.

Not all crowns are the same, standards differ, quality differs, prices differ. The only thing that doesn't differ is peoples capacity to exaggerate their savings and satisfaction when they think they got a bargain.

I got the other crown done through the NHS for about £400, the dentist, said before my accident there was perhaps some "leakage" and it was possibly on the way out. this crown has been popped back in and the gum has taken to it, but i have a black line (root) showing owing to the trauma and impact.

dentist also thinks there may be a slight fracture in there that could flair up down the road, so thinks a whole new crown would be the best solution.

Sounds a bit like the root of the tooth could be compromised. Even the most lovely crown could be doomed to failure if the foundations are weak. I would reccomend you get the tooth well checked out before deciding on treatment. Maybe an implant or a bridge might be a better long term option. Cost per year of service is more important that cost this year.

oh it has been well checked, this accident happened several months ago, and he is all for letting nature take its course, the new crown is an estimate. he told me come back in April for a consultation and see where we are at. it has been managed very very well, but 1000 e is just so much money right now. its quite upsetting.

I have forked out 400e so far and needed periodental treatment (own fault) resulting in 500e

That was a shill or SOE bot there OP. We get them the whole time, spamming the forum to increase google rankings, take no notice.
