Cycle (through the Park, down the quays (not the most pleasant!) and cross over around the Bord Gais Energy theatre - around 40/45 mins.

Drive (same route or using the N3) around 45-60 mins, plus cost of parking.

Bus - the 37 will bring you from Castleknock village to Baggot St and you'd be a ten minute walk from Ballsbridge. About 55 mins including the walk.

Train - Castleknock to Lansdowne ... Changing at Pearse for a Dart will take you 37 mins according the the route planner function on the Irish Rail website.

    * of course the bus and driving options are all subject to mad delays if something happens .... but 45-60 mins is probably a reasonable average.

I used to do this to Baggot Street Area.

Bus never took less than 50~60 mins for me. probably 10~15 mins walk after that.
Train would be similar 60 mins when all things like walking to train, connections are added probably a bit longer. There is one direct train in the morning. Trains are packed a lot of the time, no seats.
Car varied 35~70+ depending on how well you know the back roads. probably 45 is about average. if you're not great at the back roads might be 60 mins average.

Cycling took me 35~45 over, about 45~60 back. Don't go near the quays. Park, IslandBridge, Kilmanham, Grand Canal. Cycle path most of the way. Not that bad. Pleasant on a nice day.
Another option if you have a folding bike is the Docklands train 20 mins, and then 20mins cycle to Balslbridge, via Grand Canal Square and up the Canal. Good cycle lanes there too.
And one other option is the cycle the canal path from Castleknock to Dorset Street, (CrokePark) then via North Circular Road and the Docklands route. Probably take 60 mins. One for the summer maybe.

I used to mix it up between car, train, bus and cycling. I never cycled more than about 2~3 times a week at best. it was a nice alternative. I met someone once who used to use an electric bike to Ballsbridge and it took them 30~40 each way. They did that everyday.

Not everyone measures commuting the same way so times will vary for different people.
