Contacting adobe

I bought Photoshop 5 when it was launched.
In December I bought a new laptop and tried to load it. It refused it saying something like the number (licence number) entered did not match. I spent a whole day trying to contact them. Seems to me they do not want to be contacted by phone or email.
Anyone have any experience with this ?
I am really annoyed about this as I paid a lot for it.

have you checked to see if it's a compatibility issue? photoshop 5 was launched nearly 17 years ago; plus, i would strongly suspect adobe will not support it any more.

It's probably not supported, but here is their support contact page -

If it is indeed photoshop 5 then I think you may be out of luck but if you mean photoshop CS5 then they should be able to help.

It is CS5.5 - I know a few people who still use it.
I will try above number later, thanks

Two years ago I spent €600 buying Adobe software under the student scheme and before finally registering my son the student in the house left college and emigrated to the USA.

I was unable to finalise registering the software.

I had originally purchased it through Amazon and I got nowhere looking for a refund. Amazon won't entertain refunds for software and Adobe didnt wAnt to listen either.

Yesterday I purchased online Adobe Photoshop elements from Adobe online and I psid €106 online with PayPal.

I had similar problems the software would not install onto my pc, I wasted half a day trying to install, I was totally pissed off so I filed a claim for a refund from paypal.

Hope I get a refund from paypal,

So I have nothing but bad experiences with Adobe purchases :(

I was unable to finalise registering the software.

because your son is no longer a student, or was there a technical issue preventing you from doing so?

Because my son was no longer a student and his previous years student card was out of date

to be fair - you were asking for a refund not because the software was defective, but because you hadn't tried registering until a quite significant amount of time had lapsed - why should they offer a refund when the issue was at your end and you didn't act on it for such a long time?

Issue was I paid a lot of cash for a product that was not delivered.

but it's *your* fault the product was not 'delivered'.

an analogy - say i buy a bus pass for the month of february, but i do not use it (not because the bus drivers are on strike or similar, i simply don't use it); and a couple of months later i contact dublin bus saying 'i bought this bus pass, but did not use it, so i want a refund'.
they'd tell me to get ****ed, and probably pass my email around the office for some chuckles.

you bought a product, did not use it and are seeking a refund on it two years later. i strongly suspect you've not got a leg to stand on.

Way I look at it, I qualified under their terms and conditions, I paid upfront, I was lazy slow in registering, circumstances changed and then product would not be honoured. As I paid by visa I thought visa would even cover my loss, will be interesting to see if PayPal refund me for yesterday's disaster.

Im turned off buying Adobe products big time

i dunno if visa would entertain a claim for a two year old purchase, whatever the reason given.

Oh I gave up worrying about it but just highlighting pitfalls of buying their software from my experience

I tried the adobe telephone number. Its automated and will only give cloud support if you have a number. I am not happy about this as it was an expensive product which I have never had occasion to use.
If this is adobes best support I think its time to look for a buckshee copy.

I know exactly how you feel, there appears to be absolutely no comeback with Adobe purchases, on amazons website there is absolutely no comeback or refunds on Adobe products, they are robbers reminds me of McAfee internet security rip off

were you able to set up an adobe account and go into live chat support?

I personally was and I chatted to a rep and got nowhere with them.

Wonder will PayPal retrieve my latest loss of €106 for Photojop elements that would not install on my desktop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 419 ✭✭The Ging and I

I entered my details and they want to give me a discount for their cloud products. This is of no interest to me as I all ready have Cs5.5. If I knew how to use 10% of CS5.5 I would never need another adobe product. Having "extra" cloud advantages/tricks is wasted on me.
CS5.5 was a very expensive product and not something I see as a consumable.
I remember when digital photography was new and one of the "new" advantages was the money you could save on film. I could have bought an awful lot of film for the price of CS5.

My recent paypal claim for a refund on last weeks failed purchase of Adobe Elements was refused.

More money thrown away to Adobe once again :(

"After careful consideration, we're unable to decide this claim in your favor at this time.
The item is ineligible for PayPal Buyer Protection because it is intangible."

Why is it failing to install? Which version of elements is it? What are your OS/Hardware details?

It must be the latest version of elements as i only tried to download and install it 10 days ago.

    PC has windows 7

3 GB RAM, 500 GB hard disk, Intel Core i3 CPU 3.2gGHZ

I cant recall the precise error message but it spends a long time installing and then at the end of it all an error message comes up

probably a stupid question, but what happens if you hit 'ignore' ?

Did you try this suggested fix on the Adobe site:
    A restart is pending (Windows)

If you receive the error, "Installer has detected that a machine restart is pending. It is recommended that you quit the installer, restart try again," do the following:

Restart the computer and try the installation again.
If the installation fails, delete the InProgress registry key:

Disclaimer: This procedure involves editing the Windows registry. Adobe doesn't provide support for editing the registry, which contains critical system and application information. Make sure to back up the registry before editing it. For more information about the registry, see Windows registry information for advanced users on the Microsoft support site, or contact Microsoft.

    Launch Windows Registry Editor.
(Windows XP) Choose Start > Run, type regedit in the Open text box and click OK.
(Windows Vista/ Windows 7) Choose Start, type regedit in the Search box, and press Enter.
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager.
    Delete the InProgress key

Perhaps my luddite take on photography is a reaction to the preponderance of 1s and 0s that I have to deal with during the course of my day job :D

Besides which I've gone all digital-widgital before. There was this (overly complicated) explanation for example

If you bought the product under the proper terms and conditions then you should get what you pay for. I don't see how registering would change that. they shouldn't have been able to take money off you if you couldn't prove to them that you where entitled to the software discount. You started the contract when you gave them your money.

You could try telling them that you spoke to a solicitor and he thinks you have a valid contract with adobe.
