New UPC products (all nice & shiny?)

    Hi all,

I recently received an email from UPC offering me 240Mbit/s including home phone (currently have 30Mbit/s incl. home phone) for no extra charge.

I am one of those "where is the catch?" candidates as nobody is giving anything away for free ;) So I was wondering if anyone of you guys made the step and can tell if everything is shiny or if I can expect any drawbacks.

P.S.: It says unlimited Internet (guess we all know thats rubbish). Any change on the previous limit which seems (acroding to UPC) 500GB?

Thanks it advance for your feedback.

they scrapped the acceptable use limits on all new customers a while back so its not rubbish at all.

    But in my case I won´t be a new customer...just upgrading (?)

There is no limit. I've peaked 700GB on the 120/12 package.

They're just retaining you with the new contract. The cost of providing you with 30Mb and 240Mb is practically the same, once the new kit is in you're connected to it anyways. If you get used to 240Mb you're far less likely to move to eircoms VDSL product in future.

Not sure if its new customers or new contracts TBH.

Pretty safe bet the usage limits only apply to legacy 20 and 30Mb MMDS products where backhaul was limited.

I see. So really no catch just them making sure I stick with UPC? Will I get/need any new router?

Ask UPC. These kind of questions are far better directed at them.

Yes it will be and there may be an activation charge of €60 if you need a new router to get the higher speeds

However if you ask nicely, they often seem to be willing to wave this charge.

I think 700GB is more than I've downloaded in my all my years online
