Labour TD Michael McCarthy has sent a request to BBC inviting Top Gear stars Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May to bring the show to the Wild Atlantic Way.

Michael McCarthy believes that the Wild Atlantic Way would be an ideal route for presenters Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May to take on the hugely popular motoring show.

The show is the most watched factual television show in the world and the trio regularly travel to film the show on location.

“We’re inviting them over to do a show here which would be a wonderful promotion of the Irish tourism industry and I think also it will be very good for the programme itself,” he told The Irish Mirror.

“As well as the very vibrant tourist sector in the area, there’s a fine line road network.

“Appearing on the programme would naturally be good advertising for Ireland as well.”

What do ye think of this. Obviously its a bit of a non story, but would you welcome the Top Gear team or be concerned that they'd cause some sort of contrived contraversy?
Would they do the scenery justice, would it encourage irresponsible driving on below-par roads?

Personally I'd love if they filmed my locality.

I think they would have some suitable roads in the ring of Kerry, Burren and Dongal. I can imagine the three of them standing looking out over the lakes in Killarney!

They just need to find a car with the number plate "I916 GPO"

He's probably only inviting them over so he can jump on a soapbox about dangerous drivers speeding all over the place.

don't know about this ....great exposure for the country/tourism and all that

but Clarkson will have to be on his best behaviour, no mocking, no oirsh accents, no paddy jokes, no condescending remarks...will he be capable of doing this??

I think the Top Gear magazine around February last year did do a drive around that part of Ireland and other parts and it was during the storms too. Sure it was never planned to be during them storm do as he was driving a Mclaren I think. It looked like a good read I meant to buy the mag but never got around to it (: Only got to have a quick glance at it so maybe someone out there has that mag. They might be able to say more about it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
