I don't know who sets these curricula but they haven't the faintest idea about German culture.

It says Deutsch macht Freunde - I think you are the one reading things into it.

Yes you are correct it says Deutch mach Freu(n)de, a pun on Freude and Freunde. It wasn't me who noticed the connection ( got the pun), it was a 17 year old who was giggling over it with her friends. Not desirable.
