    Hi guys,
I got offered a job with a financial company pending a background check.. They have a english company taking care of it and I was just wondering how my credit will affect this.
5 years i settled with a bank with an overdraft and cc card. i had just returned from oz and wasnt great financially.. Were not talking about alot of money.. o.d was 1500 and cc was 650. I paid nearly all of the o.d and half or so of the c.c.. It was settled so I dont owe the bank anything or anything..
Now i know i have bad credit but would this really infringe on my prospect? Im going to be working in IT, but dealing with finance data..
I have requested my rating from the icb and I think im just going to ring the guy who interviewed me and let him know the story... Im just afraid hr or someone higher may now be so keen on this..

    Any help appreciated,
    cheers

I would avoid telling anyone at the company until you can find out for certain what's actually on your credit report. It normally only takes 3/4 working days for the report to be posted so I would stall the offer for a couple of days until you have the report.

One of the "pillar banks" don't report discrepancies on your overdraft for a current account.

Are you filling out an employment questionnaire relating to questions such as judgement debts/outstanding debts or does it just state that they will be conducting a credit check as part of their background checking process?

You need to find out what's on the report before deciding on the best policy of how to proceed.

If then you do have to inform them about your defaults,it will be looked on positively that you don't have any outstanding debts. If you have any court judgments relating to these debts is also an important consideration.

Also 5 years is close to the time when defaults etc will be removed from your credit report, maybe it was further back than 5 years ago?

Well done on getting the offer and hopefully it will work out ok for you.

Unless your new employer is a member of the icb they will not be able to do a credit check on you, only members of the icb can do icb credit checks

If settled and OVER five years it will be gone from your credit report.

The settlement must be less than 5 years, when you get your ICB report it will tell you when it is due to be removed from your record.
