Used Citroen C5 - Keys - one works, one may not

I was looking at a Citroen C5 today in a dealers. It is a UK import.

I noticed that one of the keys is well used and works remotely to unlock the car. The other looks brand new and when I checked, it did not unlock the car remotely. I then used the actual key to open the door and while the door opened, the alarm went off...

    Does this mean that:
    a) it's just a battery issue and putting a new battery in will fix the issue.
    b) the key will have to be reprogrammed

Also, if it has to be reprogrammed, how much will this cost?

    Thanks in advance.

It could be lacking all internals and just be a blank shell with a key blade attached.

Yikes, I hadn't considered that...how would I tell? Are these easy to open to look inside? It has all the buttons on the outside and they do depress when 'clicked'.

Also, if it is a blank, then how much for a second key, programmed for the car? (Roughly?)

Without actually trying to start the car with the second key you have no idea if it's coded to the car or not.
As for coding prices all you can do is ring around your local 'key' guys. they can vary a lot so try them all within a decent radius.
What year is the C5 ?

Was it the second key that you opened the car with? I.e. the one that doesn't do remote opening?

Yeah, I opened it with the second key and the door locks popped open fine but when I opened the door itself, the alarm went off on the car. It was only when I used the remote on the key fob that was working, that the alarm silenced.

With my car if you lock it remotely than use the key to unlock it the alarm goes off like this and you Have to use the remote to shut it up. I'd suspect it's the same thing in this case

If I lock my car manually it opens fine with the key without the alarm going off

Surely the dealer will rectify this before handover?

Just ask them to fix it. Simples.
