Can anybody recommend me a good hotel in rome for middle of feb. Somewhere that is close to the centre so that there is not too much walking involved
Any ideas on what is best to see there?

We stayed here http://www.hotelregno.com/en/default.html 3 years ago, in February. It's very central, with the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and the Victor Emmanuel monument nearby.

Stayed here in Hotel San Anselmo in Aventine Hill and I thoroughly recommend it. It's within walking distance of the Forum, the Colloseum and Circus Maximus. Up the road is Giardino degli Aranci which is an orange garden with amazing views over the city of Rome and St Peters. Within a minute or two walk is the peek through the keyhole which gives a snapshot of the Dome of St Peters. It has good public transport links and it's in a quiet residential area seven stops from the Airport and around 15 minutes walk from the station.

I haven't been to Rome for a few years but don't kid yourself that you can limit the amount of walking you'll do by the choice of hotel, you will do a lot of walking in Rome, no matter where you stay. Just be sure the hotel isn't too far from a metro station.

Hotel pantheon. Stayed there in October last year. Highly recommended. Very central, literally around the street corner from the pantheon. No noise from the street at night as its all pedestrianised there. Lovely restaurants on same street as hotel. If I go back to Rome I'll be staying there again.
