Anybody watching right now on TG4?

Have to say I thought Myers nicked the first fight. A huge percentage of Irvine's punches were blocked.

Reckon Walker got the bantam. Classy looking.

Only watching it in the background but I thought Myers won clearly

Nolan looking good against John Joe Joyce. Won the first very clearly, hurting Joyce a few times. Won the second too, so Joyce needs a massive third.

That Broadhurst looks enormous for a middle.

Did he win? Raging I missed it. The Broadhursts are a really talented boxing family in Dundalk. His sister Amy is a European gold medallist in the youth ranks.

No, Reilly won deservedly. Broadhurst is worth keeping an eye on though.

Ah shame. Still though he's only 20. Will come again hopefully.

Moylette / Walsh is a cracker so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Brilliant fight. Moylette definitely took the second. Walsh probably took the first, but they're both tight, so it could all hang on the last.

Wouldn't like to be judging that. Class fight though.

Split for Walsh. Poor Moylette, won a European title, but still hasn't won an Irish Senior.

    Won 1. 2010

That one seemed to pass me by. And since this year and last are the only two finals I've missed attending in donkey's years, mabye I'm more brain-damaged than I thought.

    Who did he beat?

Nice to see Roy Sheahan win again, after a few years without.

Good first round in the superheavy fight.

He did not. I was at it. Close up. He just wasn't busy enough. Too threatening without letting the hands flow. Irvine was far busier and worked a lot smoother. With the new scoring being similar to pro boxing I wouldn't argue with an Irvine win. It was unanimous as well wasn't it?

Wow. I was only saying to my friend that the middles looked like welters.

Did you not think he was way bigger than O'Reilly?

Yes, I see what you mean. I still didn't think he looked like a middle. Like say Sutherland or O'Neill or DeGale for example. O'Reilly would pass for a LWW.

Maybe it was a case of O'Reilly looking 'small' and hence Broadhurst looking so big.

I think so. Both looked a weight below middle. Though look at O'Neill at HW? I guess the 6 and 10 kg differences between WW/MW and LHW/HW can create smaller boxers at MW and HW. O'Neill looks like a low 80s and the MW guys look low 70s.

No it was a split decision. Sometimes it's harder to score a fight when you're at it. Agree standard wasn't great this year. Only thing that impressed me was how good Darren O'Neill was at 91kg for an inflated middle.

You sure it was split? I thought it was 3-0, and in the paper they display it as 3-0.

O'Neill's opponent was very ordinary. Had little to offer. Very predictable, and too slow for O'Neill.

What's the story with the AIBA pro boxers(or top boxers who were sick) and the 2015 National champions? Will there be box offs or do a committee decide who gets to compete in tournaments?
