Problem is, you'll have to pay for the good quality ones.

What are you wanting them for - if its just decent work cloths, like for cleaning plastics, door jambs, engine bay, etc, you can get decent ones in B&Q or Home Store and More; Kent is the name of them, and come in rolls of 6 or so.

If you are looking for ones for buffing your paintwork, you will want to be using something far more plush. The Microfiber Madness Crazy Pile cloth is my favourite. Its quite large, so I cut it into 2 or 3 sections depending on what application Im using it for, and they'd be plenty big. Use 3 sections when machine polishing a car...changing over when one gets clogged to a fresh section. For buffing wax or sealant, Id use half of one, and its enough to buff the car.

I use the ones from Euro Saver, 3 for either €1 or €1.50 for cleaning computer screens, CD's, DVD's and polishing brass, can't see why you'd pay more?

Its an old V70r 1999 that I did a three stage mop to about three months ago.

The clothes I have are well used as I valeted in the Uk for ten years but im out of touch with suppliers and I need more practice with the paint correction side of things!

The paint is somewhere inbetween your pics.

Sorry, that picture was directed at my3cents, after he suggested why would you pay for a quality cloth! ;)

Do you do paint rectification lesson by any chance?

Im self taught over the years but would love to be up to detailing standards!

Ive been asked quite a few times, and have done one or two days. But currently have no space or facilities to do it now, seeing as Ive taken a break from it, and concentrating on the products.

I spotted that even if PLUG71 didn't. Given you can get MF cloths very cheap there is nothing to stop the OP trying out the cheap ones. I'm not saying they are always good and you could pick up batch of really bad ones but I think your going to notice that fairly quickly once you start to use them. When vigorously cleaning DVD's the ones I mentioned didn't scratch the surface or leave any marks, but as they say, test on a small area first. One thing you normally notice on the cheap ones is they aren't as thick so don't last as long.

My3cents, have you any good microfiber cloths in your arsenal?

My own personal experience is that once you notice the difference you may find yourself spending a few hours hitting your head off the wall about having used the cheap ones. The cheap ones you find everywhere, they have no pile, they grab very easily. Hold them against the light, the strength of the weave is not as good as you'd like.

Yes they have their uses, but I think Curran is bang on the money with his comments there.

My own 2 cents is buy cheap, buy twice. Microfiber Madness to be fair are very good. And distributed locally here in Ireland aswell!

I might help make it look a bit like that, but the problem is, they damage is still there! :P A stitch in time saves nine...and all that! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭Mr Detail

Curran is spot on, I wouldn't touch mine or a customers paint with those cloths. Trust me on this I have used every cheap cloth out there and probably most of the others on the market too.

A good quality cloth, even the Kent buffing towel (not buffing cloth) which is sub €6 makes a massive difference. Not only that but once you have a quality cloth, you only use it for touching paint, it will last an enthusiast for years.

I am actually running an intro to Detailing and DA polishing day for the end of February / early March. Covering everything right from safe wash and decontamination up to DA polishing. With hands on experience.

Sorry if I shouldn't mention that here but if admin want to contact me I will also offer a boards members discount.

Lads, i know this is sad, but i was in michael guineys during the week picking up some sheets for the baby's cot and they have decent size microfiber towels... I would not use them on paint work, but i picked up two of them for things like interior or drying wheels before applying sealant... just thought i'd share that they have them :)

Look up the rag company mate they have loads of clothes there
The boarderless blonde eagle I think it's called will do you nicely .. No chance of scratching paint and good quality from what Iv seen

Do the ship internationally? See they do Canada for $20, but no mention of anywhere else.

They seem to do very good quality microfibres....the Microfiber Madness Crazy Pile is actually a slightly better towel, with 500g/m2 verus 480g/m2....not that theres a huge amount in it in, hardly noticeable when using either!
Both being Ultrasonic cut and as a result having no boarder/edges is the quality you are paying for!

Rag Company get them from Korea. Microfiber Madness also do, but ssssh.
Well, they get the material, but ultimately made in Germany to the high manufacturing standards Microfiber Madness are known for.

How did you manage that? Just seen this on their site!
Free delivery is available to United Kingdom addresses ONLY and excludes addresses outside the UK. Free delivery is applicable to orders over £35.00 (inc vat) ONLY.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,245 ✭✭✭myshirt

Go to the homepage and you will see just above the flashing January sale sign that it says put in SHIPPING50 at Checkout for free delivery, excluding zones outside the UK and Ireland.

    You can't miss it.

Ahhhh, but thats a special due the January Sale? Not the norm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭Mr Detail

I tried to order just there and it says items in my basket cannot be shipped to my location.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,245 ✭✭✭myshirt

    Correct.

They are getting the Edgeless Avalanche drying towel soon, it's over 1,200 gsm premium korean microfiber. Wait and see can it compete, but to be fair, they don't look like crap towels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Yeah the Microfiber Madness Dry Me Crazy is 1200g/m2 also.
Fantastic drying towels - makes a shore a pleasure! :)

That's cos you are in Tipperary. No one delivers to Tipperary anymore :pac:

Mine went through... but wait, they just emailed and said they won't deliver and are offering a refund. Technically, it's a contract. They've taken the money. I have a receipt. But yerman says free delivery excludes zones outside UK, and also excludes Ireland.

That's not what it says on the homepage to be fair though does it? It says free delivery excluding zones outside UK and Ireland.

I'm throwing my hat out there and saying that means free delivery to Ireland.

Ah well, good while it lasted.

    Ha ha.

We live in the Republic of Ireland. Although that's not an option on their shipping list ha ha.

Free shipping on 10 quid here would mean they would be LOOSING money I suppose.

Not entirely, if they had the volume. It's not outrageous.

Just a promotion this month anyway. Would have been good towels to get for 15e.

Sorry, my "losing" wasnt meant to be in capitals. It would have to be savage volume to be honest. Shipping from the UK is even more expensive than going the other way.

It's a shame for anyone who wanted any, that would have been a sweet deal.

It appears to work if you use Parcel Motel, i.e. get them sent to the PM address in Newtownabbey for free, and then they will be sent to your home address in RoI for €3.95.

Not your home address but still worth it if you want the cloths. Personally I'd find some cloths in Ireland to buy but you can't beat a bargain.

A bit of outdoor space for washing, etc...with access to electricity and a tap.
Even better if there is accompaning indoor space so some work can be demonstrated indoors.

    Will report back!

My money says you will wonder why you didnt buy quality microfibers sooner!
Take care of them and only just them for the buffing jobs - get others for doing the work horse type work!

I have a MM Crazy Pile, just the one though...

Admittedly, on first feel, the MM just feels better... but these are not bad for 3 for 15.

What specifically are you using to wash these babies?

You should wash them on their own with no fabric conditioner. A quick wash in the machine should suffice.

Yes, and hang dry. Just wondering what brand liquid detergent people use though? My wife uses Fairy Non-Bio for washing the kids clothes, and if I eat into it anymore I'm dead.

These specific microfiber cleaning agents are the most disingenuous thing I ever came across in detailing, it's shameful to be honest. At least there is some argument for clay lube (high profit product also), there is no argument for dedicated microfiber cleaning. There cant be.

is drying on a radiator not a right thing to do?

Air dry is seen as best but I often dry on a radiator as I need cloths in decent time and I never have an issue.
