Anyone know which main stores or type of shops that sell this? Never had to really use it but getting a new CPU and if I need to clean and reapply new pastes it would be handy to have on standby.

    Thanks

Living in Dublin 2 so plenty of places to look nearby (including a few pharmacies). Is it usually expensive or cheap enough?

Maplin(Jervis Street) are a rip but will have it. Think I got mine in either Peats(now closed) or MicroPro (Rathfarnham).

Lighter fluid is easier to get and more effective.

Any lithographic print house should have barrels of it just ask can you speak to a printer they might even fill a bottle for nothing.

Paraffin leaves residue, only couple of degrees of a difference, but I wouldn't recommend it.

lighter fluid is not parafin and it leaves no residue whatsoever. It is sometimes called naphtha. Being a highly refined hydrocarbon, it removes oils and greases far more readily than alcohol and evaporates very quickly leaving no trace.

Almost any alcohol you can get your hands on has some water in it

I find naphta harder to work with, depend on the application - it is very good at dissolving certain things but is much slower to evaporate comparatively. I'd go for the IPA or acetone, just don't get the acetone on plastic, it'll dissolve a lot of plastics like acrylic or LDPE.
