Just looking for some advice from those of you that have been to Italy. Planning a 6-7 day trip there this Easter for my boyfriends 30th but unsure where exactly in Italy to visit as there is so much I want to see there and unforch cant see it all!

100% going to check out Rome and spend maybe three days there. Would like to visit Pompeii but heard Naples isn't the nicest place to stay. The Almafi Coast is also an option but unsure how long to spend there in total, and where to base myself while I'm there... Do people just pick an island and stick to it? Anyone any advice on whether these places would be good or am I better of heading North after Rome and going to Florence or Venice?

    All help greatly appreciated :)

the thing with rome is after 3 days of monuments, churches and museums its best to try something different so personally i would go south to the amalfi coast instead of north towards florence/venice. those cities are well worth a visit in their own right don't get me wrong.

there are plenty of towns to stay on the amalfi coast, we stayed in sorrento while there or more accurately in sant'agnello just a short walk away. sorrento is a great base to explore pompeii and the nearby isle of capri (highly recommended to ascend all the way to the summit btw)

when i was last there (more than 10 years ago) the local naples to sorrento train was downstairs in naples central station (napoli garibaldi). that train takes about 50 minutes and stops right outside pompeii (Pompei S. Villa Mister) on the way http://www.eavsrl.it/web/sites/default/files/ftp_orari_ferroviario/Cx.pdf

Thanks rossie1977, really good point about doing something different we will probably have done enough sightseeing after Rome. Do you think 3 days in the almafi coast including day trip to Pompeii would be enough? Also looking at flying home from Naples then but flights are really expensive from Naples to Dublin, is it worth it thought to avoid getting back to Rome again for the airport?

    Hi,

We flew to Treviso then bus to Venice for 3 days then got a train over to Lake Garda and then another train up to Munich. This was in August and we done it quite reasonably, Venice is well worth a visit and you won't be disappointed. You could get a train from there over to Milan or you could go to Dolomites Mountain range where there are lots of things to do. Trains are reasonable and you have lots of Ryan air options home from this north part of Italy.

    Enjoy

I'm in the process of heading to Italy as well!

Only going for a week and it's going to be very quick!
    2 days in Rome
    1 day in Florence
    1 day in Venice
    2 days in Ljubljana Slovenia
    1 day in Salzburg

Very short timeframe for all these places. Hopefully it's not too short!
