    Hi,

Getting married outdoors in June and the venue dont provide PA/Speakers for the garden. Just wondering how did others manage?

    Did you rent a PA?
OR just use a wireless/BT speaker?

Thinking it could be the excuse to get a good BT speaker, but would be good to hear from those who have done the same

We are wondering if we can do without altogether. 85 guests. Will be interested to see responses.

Have you got a band or Dj that night that might rent you the equipment for the day?
Ring a sound rental agency, recommend sound lease in ballymount if in dublin, discuss your needs with them.

sound doesnt carry very well outdoors unless its dead calm and the person speaking must be facing the audience/guests. If its windy in any way, forget about it.

Go to an open space with your partner, stand as far back as the furthest guest will be, turn sideways, speak at the level you will be on the day and ask your partner what they can hear. That will make your mind up for you.

I'd advise against a home stereo solution for outdoors. Sound needs to travels further and you will typically need more wattage than in a venue where you might get away with it. a generic but decent set of speakers (200 - 300 W RMS) and wireless mic can be bought for maybe 300 second hand and resold for little loss or rented for about 100. if you plan on playing music through it later you will need more power again than the speeches only option.

    Its a tricky situation.

I did one last year where I was asked to provide speakers for the out door part, we where the band for them. Now, the priest is the one that needs to be heard. The priest normally stands in front of a mic in the church etc but this was outdoors with no pulpit etc. Normally in a church he would use a lapel mic(Attache to his clobber) when not behind the pulpit, but in a church he does not really get the couple to speak into either. Of course if there are others doing speaking they stand behind a mic too.

So the solution was a handheld mic to which the priest was not really up for, he likes to use his hands to hold the mass book and the other to "Wave around", his words not mine. Most people if they've never used a mic have no idea what to do with it etc so I had them just do a test run to show them where to hold it.

It went fine. 2 active speakers, mixing desk and one wireless mic and they kinda worked it out themselves to hand the mic to who needed it. There was 60ish people.

I'd ask the band to see if they can help out and failing that simple hire in some gear. Don't use home hifi stuff.

We had <110 at our wedding and were glad we had a PA system. We hired it by the hotel's recommendation as their one wouldn't have been suitable for outside. Just called one of the guys on their list of recommended suppliers. I think it cost around 150.
