I've found a couple of threads from a few months back about people ordering Google Cardboard kits, but there don't seem to be too many reviews on here?

Was it a case of "played with it for 5 minutes then got bored"?

Regardless, I ordered my kit today. Looking forward to giving it a go.

+1 , but it could get more interesting as more interactive VR apps become available. It's more of a technology demonstrator than a useful tool.

    I've one in a drawer somewhere, it's a novelty for 5 mins, that's it.

Got a free one, absolutely wowed me when I got it, stopped using it after an hour! Would maybe use it to watch movies if there was like a strap to keep it held on to your head. Would be a good experience with headphones.

You can always upgrade from cardboard to one of these. Cardboard worked well for me, but something like the one linked (with adjustable lenses) plus a Bluetooth controller might make the experience a bit more addictive.

As above used one at the Web Summit for about 10 minutes, wasn't too impressed with it, it was OK but that's it, I wouldn't spend the money to buy it.

    My cardboard has arrived :)

Now I have to spend the whole day looking at the unopened package on my desk as I can't be seen to be wasting time at work. And I don't want to look like a knob with a cardboard box stuck to my face.

    My personal review this evening.

I ordered one yesterday, should have it by the weekend hopefully.

Got one for my son for Xmas. Everyone played with it for about 10 minutes and were impressed. Now it's sitting on a worktop in his room untouched in 4 weeks. Pure novelty / demonstrator but as ModeRator said if you could get something similar with a decent head strap, better quality construction and a pair of bluetooth headphones I can see the potential attraction for watching movies and live streamed sports which I can imagine would be deadly in such an immersive environment.

I might get the one ModeRator linked to just to see if it's more of a day to day product than Cardboard.

I meant to ask, can anyone recommend a media player which will play stored or streamed content for use with Cardboard? GoShow is the only one I can find on the Google Cardboard Play Store but some of the reviews are pretty poor - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.HD_goshow01&hl=en

Edit: Just found this also https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephanelx.vrplayer&hl=en Seems the best of what's available. Also this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funghisoft.sbsvideoplayer&hl=en

I use VR Cinema for local files, does a good job.

    Well, it certainly works.

In Google Earth I managed to fly around Dublin and into Croke Park!
Viewing the portrait of Marie Antoinette in Versailles is impressive.

The problem for me is ordinary 3D movies like this http://youtu.be/MFt5MbmS9T8 Excellent 3D but watching it while not moving resulted in a bit of motion sicknesss! Pretty sure I'd hurl if I tried the 3D rollercoaster app :(

For anyone looking at this resource card from Tinydeal:

You can download the entire content here, it's all free stuff anyway so no harm posting this but it will save you the hassle of waiting for it in the post:

    download this app

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shakingearthdigital.vrsecardboard

then download in-app the "evolution of verse" - 600 mb

it's a vr short from the sundance film festival.

Most impressive thing that I've seen on cardboard so far.

Just make sure to look at the train when it comes....

and use earphones for the sound

I tried the Google Cardboard at the weekend and was completely skeptical about this giving a decent VR Experience but I was wrong!

It actually works pretty well and has got me definitely interested in getting a decent VR Headset at sometime in the future - maybe the samsung gear VR or something.

Looking to buy one of these to demo vr in the classroom. Have a htc m8 and those that I've looked at on amazon aren't compatible with all phones.
Where have people bought theirs? I know it's only a tenner but want one that's a legitimate Google design not a cheap knockoff.
    Anyone wanna sell one???

I literally just sent these links to a friend as I was demonstrating cardboard to them here.

    http://www.tinydeal.com/2-x-diy-google-cardboard-vr-3d-glass-f-iphone-samsung-cellphone-p-137897.html

    http://www.tinydeal.com/ritech-virtual-reality-kit-wireless-game-controller-p-144743.html

I use the M8 in both of these so no worries there! Also there is a lot more cardboard content appearing on the Playstore

Thanks for that looks perfect. Have you bought from that site before, is it legit?

I have been buying from them for a couple of years now without issues. But do bear in mind that it will take 3 weeks for delivery
