I want to get a few sheep, less than 10, for a small bit of land behind my house.
Is it as easy as purchasing them from a farmer or the mart or do in need to have some prior paperwork. (herd number, etc)

    Thanks in advance.

You'll need a flock no, link below for forms and info

thanks for the reply. When I said less than 10 I probably really meant less than 5.
Could I not just get a few without the paperwork - they will be only as pets.
    Thanks.

Hmmm, I asked this very same question on boards about 7 years ago! OP - How about a few pet lambs? Lots on done deal.

The paperwork for you, (after you have bought you 5 ewes) is the annuall census which for you will be writing 5 in one box signing and putting in the post.

The paperwork if you buy in a mart will be one line in a flock book that the dept will send you when you get your flock no. I think there's a bit more involved in flock to flock sales

You won't get to buy them in a mart without having a flock number that's active for sheep

    OK lads

All good advise there, much appreciated. I downloaded the flock forms last night and had a look, all seems simple enough.

    Thanks again.
