Apparently the Esso on Ushers Quay is selling petrol & diesel at 99.9c per litre. According to pumps.ie anyway...

He did it before and caused mayhem on the Quays. Although these days it's not as big as deal as when he did it when the normal price was c.€1.50 per litre!

Hard to believe. If true it will make the news.

They must be selling it at a loss?

Yes a huge loss, but they only do it for a few hours and sell about 6k liters and it's covered by Esso in the form of marketing budget. Probably runs at a lost of about €1,200. And then he puts the price back up to a cent or two above the cheaper norm and sells 50,000 liters off the back of the promo and makes €1,000 additional margin + additional shop sales.

What relevance has that got ?

It's still the exact same owner running the exact same company.

A paint job doesn't cover what they very knowingly did too 100% of their customers for an extended period of time and you would presume they would still be doing if they were not caught

the relevance is that with new pumps etc the calibration was then repaired / corrected. It was a lot more than a "paint job". Every pump was replaced with new pumps.

    Pumps.ie says 121.9c now

I'm not being smart here, but how you reach that conclusion is bizarre to me

This operator was found guilty of KNOWINGLY operating with his pumps under dispensing. He was given an order to calibrate them (this takes approx 1 hour for about 8 pumps)

He failed to do that, continued to sell fuel from the same unadjusted pumps, was caught again and brought to court and found guilty.

How you think changing a pump makes any difference when the same thing can be done on any pump new or old is strange. The pumps being changed was simply done by Esso along with the rebrand and mini revamp in return for the contract to supply the site with fuel.

The owner could dispense over or under fuel at any time he chooses. As could any site provided they are prepared to run the risk of being caught/can cover up and explain the Roms discrepancy with revenue.

To use an example, I can sell you a cheap vodka from a refilled bottle of Grey Goose, and can be caught and fined, but if I want to do it again the fact I have a refurbished bar has no bearing on it

Which is not that cheap. I got diesel for 117.9 in Jones Oil in Tallaght earlier in the week. That's about the cheapest I've seen it. Long time since I got a fill for 50 bucks.

    That's the petrol price though....

117.9 is the diesel price according to pumps.ie

Let's look at the facts, a person leasing a petrol station was caught under dispensing fuel. Since then

    1. Brand new pumps
    2. New person now leases the place
    3. New fuel supplier (was top now esso).

Do you think the place is haunted or something?

Got diesel at 117.8 in round towers in lusk last night.. was chatting the guy behind the counter and asking him when we would see it down to 1 euro a liter and he says he doesn't think its going to go much lower than it is now..

No one leases the place. It's fully owner operated

The exact same person who stood in court still owns and runs the place.

    They never left.

Didnt realise that, for some reason I though it was foreigners who were renting it when they were caught with tampered pumps

You were lucky to find a member of OPEC double jobbing in a filling station in Lusk.

All it would take is the euro to rebound from its current record low value against the dollar for us to see it start dropping again. €1 petrol is possible. If the euro was as strong as it was on the first of Jan, petrol would be a further 4-5c cheaper right now. If the euro was as strong as it was against the dollar this time last year it would be 5-8c cheaper.

Diesel is €1.13 near me (Cork city) now so that drop would bring us very close to the €1 mark. The price of a barrel of oil halving shows that anything is possible. If the Greeks decide to mess up the eurozone the price could go back up regardless of the oil price though.

€1.19 in Esso in Dublin, €1.21 in Esso in Carlow.

    Typical.

The Euro going down the swanny against the dollar, will be worth less than a dollar before year end.
