Do you play games to the end?

    Allo all,

The thread on steam time got me thinking: Of all the games i own, 3000+ hours worth, i rarely if ever play them to the end.
I play them up to the point where i have sucked all of the new and interesting content out of them. The moment i feel like i'm playing filler content or there are no new mechanics for me to see, i tend to drop it and play something else.

    How about you?

Do you play games to the end? 56 votes

Never. Too many games, too little time!

Huh, you mean there's more to games than multiplayer?

    Depends on the story.
A well written tale can make me forgive repetitive gameplay (to a point)

Only if they have a good story. Most single player games don't grab me these days with the exception of some point and click adventure games (south park was great). I had to force myself to finish far cry 4 so I could uninstall it and I never bothered to finish the BF4 campaign.

I'm looking forward to playing the GTA V single player but I doubt that BF hardline's single player will be worth playing. If you play with regulars on teamspeak then most single player games just seem like a waste of your free time.

I used to clear pretty much every game i started, but that's definitely not the case anymore. A game really has to hold my attention these days, either with a decent story or great gameplay. Even than, i may not finish it.

I wish there was an option for:

"Yes, I always complete the campaign/story, and if the game is good enough, I will go back and finish side quests afterwards as well."

Fallout 3 would an example of this. After completing the main story and installing the DLC, I went back to complete them and any additional things I missed.

I'm at that point with Far Cry 4 myself.

I've done everything possible before the bridge, but there's nothing new coming. Just more storyline.

    Multiplayer is abysmal.

Saving grace is the map maker. Some really good user generated maps coming through.

It depends really. GTA V I just finished the main story, some of the side missions and most of the random events that happened while I was on the way to other missions. Far Cry 3 I got about 70% completion in order to get the gold and silver single player trophies, but with Portal 2 I played pretty much everything that was on offer.

Games like Modern Warfare 1/2 and Black Ops I started with the multiplayer, played the campaign when I had the chance (I finished the CoD 4 and MW2 campaigns when I moved and had no internet connection) and played the Zombies/Spec Ops modes with friends. I just played multiplayer in Battlefield 3 and 4 though.

Left Fallout 3 for a long time in the middle of the campaign but went back to it last weekend and I'm hooked again.

I tend to lose interest in games and couldn't be arsed playing them anymore (FarCry 4) or finish them for the sake of it.

Alien Isolation & Wolfenstein were definite exceptions, though. Loved playing every minute of them and they were both good long campaigns.

I don't really care about 100% completion in most games though the Rayman games made me a stubborn bastard to make sure I finished them totally :pac:

    Poll reads more like:

    Do you finish good games?

I'm very discriminating about the games I buy.

I seldom get games that I'm not fairly certain I'm going to want to play all the way through.

I'd say there's only 2 or 3 games out of the 75 I have on steam that I've played, haven't finished and don't plan on returning to.

I'm not quite a completionist but I generally go well beyond the main campaign.

    Less and less these days.

The last game I finished was probably either tomb raider or the second Batman. Games have become so complicated and involved that sometimes I just don't want the hassle of getting back into that drama and if I leave it too long I've forgotten the controls.

I think the AAA titles are making games that are too complicated to be fun. You can't just pick up and play games anymore. I got one of the recent Mortal Kombat games and it just doesn't have the accessibility the original had. You practically have to go to Mortal Kombat school to learn everything and have any chance. In some ways it's a good thing but in others it's just a hassle, especially if you're pressed for time.

I think it's why mobile gaming is becoming so much more popular. The games are more like games used to be, very accessible, pick up and play and you have the basics learned in minutes with the more involved stuff coming as and when you want to get into it.

Every time I go back to play the likes of Black flag or watch dogs I just give up in frustration, the fun factor just isn't there.

Maybe I'm just turning into an old man.

I still play games I just can't see myself firing up anything other than assetto Corsa until GTA V comes out. The side effect of becoming jaded with most games is that I'm entirely focused on assetto corsa to the point I'm buying equipment and making rigs. Just went over 400 hours in that game and I've still only scratched the surface. It's simple but it's got depth to it that most games don't.

I'm the same. I think it's more of a 'refined gamer' outlook.

You don't bother with most of the 'hype' and have your own few niche picks over the year that take up most of your gaming time.

For instances, I'm playing Kerbal Space Program and Skyrim..again! Must have 300 hours between them over the years. Why buy throw away titles?

Always...even if I hate the game which is a problem.

    Depends on the story line!

Finished all the unchartered games to a 100% only (PS3)

But got to around 80% in Fallout 3

Yes but at some games are on the back burner. I'll get back to them, I'm just not in the humour.

Very rare I'd finish a game. Has to be an amazing sci fi story to hook me

I used to be the type to play half way through a game, decide to try play something else and then never go back to the first game.

Then i decided i had too many half finished games so now when i start one i play it till i finish it. I dont goas far as completing them 100% but i try and finish the story or for games with no set ending play as much as i can till it feels finished to me.

I assume End to mean the end of the story btw, not 100% completion. I've never gotten 100% in a game, as I've absolutely no interest in achievements.

I find myself thinking of the next game I will play during playing the current one! What I do now is I leave my HDD full and will not buy any more games until I clear a few so they can be uninstalled. That made me play games I know have large storage requirements so at least its a start!
It is kind of like a gaming gastric band!

I rarely finish games lately. To make it worse a lot of games I play now are games, that dont have ending. I am afraid even to think how many hours and money I sank in to Wot and yet I play it everyday.

I though my new consoles will make me finish some games, but thats already proven wrong. I gave up on Dragon age inquisition after 10h as it became just a too repetitive for my liking.

Depends on the game but I do have an awful habit of not finishing them and starting another one, then to not finish that and later go back to the original game again and the whole cycle starts again.

I think it depends entirely on my mood, I don't like playing games that I'm not in the mood of playing for the sake of it, even if I'm half way through the game. So i'll fire up another game and then that keeps me hooked for a while.

I did make an effort recently to finish Deus Ex HR and so glad I did, it was worth it.

I WILL finish wolfenstein. It will be the second game I have finished on the PC since I started in February of last year. I have about 700 hours in online play for Bohemia interactive games, obviously I will never complete those but I deserve some form of recognition

Try Gemini Rue - that's a good sci-fi story driven game that didn't drag. In fact a lot of the games that I enjoyed finishing were indie games but the AAA games' single player usually lack substance. I wish I could buy just the multiplayer component of most of the big titles. Off the top of my head I enjoyed:

Gemini Rue and some other Wadjet Eye games
    Limbo
    Half life and Portal games
    Braid
South Park (a few tiresome parts to be fair)
Botanicula and the other Aminata Design games
    Dead Space 1&2
Stacking (fairly sure I finished this)

Grim Fandango Remastered is out on the 27th. I never played the original so I'm looking forward to it but I'm expecting some of it to feel dated.
