External Hard-drive problem

    I have a Medion Drive-n-Go Ext Hard=drive problem.
When I plug it into the USB port on my laptop, the blue light comes on for about 10 seconds and then goes off again. I can hear the unit running afterwards but the HD doesn't show up in "My Computer" or in Disk Management.
I've tried switching the USB cable to the 2nd port, and also used separate cables.
    Have you any suggestions please
    Thank you

Get a new enclosure for the disk inside.

Agreed ^^^. Power unit for the drive is gone. You'll need a new caddy for it.

    Hi
I tried giving it a little tap and that worked for me - so all is well now
Thank you both for the replies

It'll go again. Once they go they can limp on for a bit but they'll eventually give up.

    Hi
    Thanks again
I've transferred my data to another one so I'll put this away for now and only use if I absolutely have to.

    Thanks

The Hard drive is probably fine inside, it's just the caddy that needs replacing. Not usually too expensive if you shop around

Have more than one copy of the data.

Don't include the old disk in that.
