Recommendations for a robust laptop

    Hi,

I'm shopping for a new laptop for the wife.
Looking for something robust with a good solid keyboard and number pad.

    Budget: 300 - 400

Intended use: college work, internet, e-mail, Word processing, watching media files.

Mobility: Not so important, used mainly around the house.

    Warranty: Not too bothered

What Operating System do you use? Prefer W7 or Vista. Not W8

At first I was thinking of a new (ish) laptop, but now I'm swaying more towards an older machine.
There are a few sellers on eBay selling older HP Elitebooks with 17" screens. I know they have older processors etc, but that wouldn't make much difference for it's intended use.
An older Elitebook is going to be streets ahead of newer machines in terms of build quality and robustness. And I'm thinking a suitable SSD will speed things up nicely.

    Appreciate any suggestions/opinions
    Cheers
