Seen on the latest junk sent into house that the HD pack is now €10 per month down from €15.
Not looking likely they will make it free for the foreseeable future.

Tell them your leaving and you will get it for 7.50 a month.

Yeah they usually throw it in at half price so that should be €5 a month. Shouldn't they launch a few 4K channels instead and charge for that to push the technology, HD is 9 years old now and all channels should be in High-Def not charging a premium for what is a necessity on any TV over 30 inches.

Was it €10 a month for two years or €10 full stop?

Is that passed on to existing customers automatically or will a call to complain be required which seems to be the case most of the time?

They could do with adding the other BBC HD channels,BBC 3,4,Cbeebies & CBBC as a sweetener for the price hikes!

i cant understand why they even charge extra for hd channels I would not pay extra for it ,I have the channels anyway in sd they look pretty sharp allready so why pay $10 extra just to get the picture a little sharper .I have rte and bbc in hd and there is very little difference between them and the sd ones ,maybe if the hd ones where not on sd I might consider subscribing to hd but not at the moment

    In the T&C's section...
€10 HD Offer: HD package for €10 per month for 24 months. The then current price applies after the offer period. Offer expires if you fail to fulfil any conditions of your HD contract and then standard pricing applies

You're not expecting Sky to really do something nice for their customers for once, are you? I would be absolutely mind blown if they automatically reduced the bill by the €5 for existing customers.

No I wasn't hence the reference to making a call to complain in an attempt to get a reduction, to date its the only way I know how to get Sky to do anything, express your wish to cancel & eventually someone takes notice & offers you a token reduction.... wouldnt mind so much only the call seems to take longer each time:D

You have to sign up to a 2 year contract to get this. Better to tell them you're cancelling HD and they'll give it to you for 7.50 with no contract. I did that yesterday and got it for 7.50 for next 9 months.

Along with High Definition you also get (not all the time) Dolby Digital surround sound with HD channels. This is not an option on SD channels.

still not worth $120 per year just for surround sound

I think it is, obviously I would prefer if it was free.
In my opinion, there is a significant difference.

    Still qualifies as a rip-off

Holy crap... a 2 year contract! And no HD BBC3/4 or CBeebies/CBBC. And the box sets were free to all subscribers until recently.

Netflix and Freesat/Saorview is how it will stay for me. :)

HD is great but not at 15quid a year, Now its 10 and your tied to a longer contract, then the hassle of ringing and threatening to leave just to get a discount......Sky dont give a sh!te about their customers.

Alot of SD channels are surround sound, most of the movie channels are AC3

If you had said you wanted to cancel the whole lot you would of got it for half price.

Doesn't always work out that way. I cancelled two weeks ago. Told them it was too expensive. Specifically pointed out that 15 a month for HD was too much. Their best offer was "we could take HD off your package and you'd save 15 quid that way". I guess my account wasn't that important to them.

When i had Sky I was ringing them twice a year to get deals off them and everytime they repeated the same sh!it about all they could do, if it didnt suit me Id just tell them to cancel, eventually they will give you something. If not then cancel and give them a month and they will ring you offering half price etc....

After 2 weeks they saw exactly what you were at, you need to go beyond that to 30 days and they will make you an offer rather than let you leave

Haven't heard from them since I cancelled two weeks ago. Not sure what they thought I was at.

You're not doing it right, there is a massive difference between SD and Full 1080i HD, especially BBC as the bitrate of their HD is very high. Do you have a Full HD TV?

I agree, I was suggesting to the GFs mother that now that she has got a HD TV she should get the HDMI cable an set the TV up to show the full HD as its was better than the standard definition, but no she had no interest (to be expected I suppose) So at was at the house one day and swapped cables and adjusted the TV without her knowing, I showed her the difference and by god she could not believe it...haha it was all she talked about to anyone who came into the house....."the picture is so clear" was all that was heard for the rest of the day. (she has little to be thinking about :D)

I can see the difference allrite {yes I have a 42 inch full hd set} but I still dont think its worth it .I remember when we changed from black n white to colour ,from aerial to cable from cable to satellite ,in my opinion those changes were worth the extra expense ,but do you not notice your eyes just adjust after a min or two and you forget about the quality ,once the picture has no interference on it its ok for me

no mass debater I am doing it rite I work in the cable and satellite industry but I just think sd on sky is very good and upgrading to hd would be great but it should be free and I dont think it is worth the added expence
