Anyone else got eircom broadband in Athenry? The website says efibre is available in the area but putting in my address and a phonecall to eircom turns out I can only get 24mb for €40pm. Anyone else got 24mb eircom? What are the speeds like?

We're on eircom 24mb in athenry. it's not the best tbh. I just did a speedtest to see what we're getting at this minute and this is the result: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4088991688
The upload speed is shockingly bad. And when playing xbox live games nobody else in the house can be online because it makes it cut off. We're not sure if the problem is eircom or the eircom modem but it does cut out fairly regularly and then we have to reboot the modem. kind of annoying.
I'm not sure what the alternative is though..we kinda just have to wait for eircom to actually roll out the efibre for real.

Thanks. Signed up to it anyways so I'l have to wait and see what the speeds are like when the modem arrives. The website says efibre is available in the athenry area but I live in the middle of the town and it says it's not available at my address for whatever reason. Apparently UPC isin't available and sky goes through eircom lines I think so would be the same speeds. It has to be better than the current 3 dongle, 2mb down and 1mb up.

yeah we got the same story with efibre and we're in the town too. it looks like they're telling porkies there. Good luck with it. When yours comes could you do a speedcheck too? I feel like our upload speed should be better than it is so it would be great to compare.

Meant to get back to you sooner, got it installed a few weeks ago. Ran a speed test just now and I'm getting 30 ping, 17.22 download, and 0.65 upload, which is fairly typical of what I'v been getting since installing. I play playstation online no problem even at peak times while on the internet on phones and laptops and there doesn't seem to be any issues. I'v noticed it lagging the very odd time but nothing major.

Happy with the download speeds but like yours the upload speed seems to be awful.

Mate of mine got Fibre broadband. He lives in the Caheroyan area. Download speed was 50mb and upload around 30mb. That was around 5 in the evening. He said it reduced to 30mb download and 18mb upload around 7 o'clock. He is though Vodafone but it is the Eircom lines. The price is E35/month unlimited. He only got it yesterday so I will update in a week or two and see how he is getting on with it.

Eircom modem are pure muck. Replace them as soon as you can, you can get a good replacement for less than €100. I have a drawer at work full of broken eircom modems, it's not even the same modem, it's like they go out of their way to find the worst modem on the market each time they need to source a new one.

The bottom line for me with eircom is their customer support is bruttle. We're on a contract with them at work and once the contract is up we'll never be going near them again.
