Lufthansa seat reservation

I may be flying Dublin to Munich with Lufthansa. They charge €10 per person, one-way to reserve a seat, so with 4 of us that will add on €80. Is it likely that we would be able to sit together or 2 and 2 if we don't reserve seats.
I heard you can select seats free of charge 23 hours before your flight, is this correct?

    Thanks in advance.

Depends on how early you check-in and how many other people reserve seats in advance so nobody can give you a definitive answer as to what will happen if you leave it to chance but as the flight is barely over two hours, does it really matter if you get split up?

There's an Aer Lingus flight at 16:00 and yours is at 17:30 so very unlikely that your flight will be full, should be plenty of room for everyone and reasonably flexible seating arrangements.

That's correct. If you check in the full 23 hours before you should have no problem getting seats together.
