    Hi,

I'm just wondering if new entrants to civil service are always only given positions in Dublin or can they be given positions at decentralised locations when commencing employment?

The reason I'm asking is because i have applied for one of the recently advertised executive officer roles on public jobs. I live in the midlands and if successful in my application would prefer to be based here rather than Dublin.
    Thanks

I'd say you'd be in with a good shot. Retirements everywhere so I'd say staff are needed everywhere.

Probably no harm to mention it to them where you'd like to go. If there isn't an opportunity during the tests, get in touch with them (phone/email) once you get notified if/that you've qualified.

From what I remember from the AO competition after the tests if you qualified you were asked for your preferred location.

What did the advertisement say? Was it for nationwide or Dublin? On the recent CO competition, they asked everyone to put in their regions in order of choice so if they did or do that then you've a good chance. If the advert said for Dublin then I would imagine it'd take time before being able to transfer if even possible.
