Paternity Leave - Civil/Public Service

    I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has a partner who is due a baby.
    They entered the PS/CS recently, and thought (as I did), that they couldn't take paternity leave until they have been in the role for 12 months.
    Is this the case or not?
    I've done a quick search online and it appears that some members of the PS/CS get three days paid leave post birth of baby.
    Is this correct? And again, do you have to be over 12 months in the job before you can take this time off etc?
    In general, have people heard of paternity leave being turned down in the CS/PS? Can this happen?

    He may be getting confused, I just went into that link myself to look up parental leave and that states you must have a years service before applying.

    You might be thinking of this parental leave:

    It's not just for having babies. It's for looking after yer kid right up till they are 18. Can be either parent.

    It's unpaid and you can do it every year. Staff call it Term Time. I think it's a scheme called Term Time. You might have seen Temporary Clerical Officer job competitions. Often, temporary clerical officers are covering for staff out on Term Time.
